Job Description

As BSS Technology SME, you will act as the TalkTalk expert for Order Management & Provisioning. You will build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, such as business owners, product owners and suppliers.


You will have a strong technical background and be able to use your knowledge to advise, influence and support cross-functional technical squads delivering and maintaining complex applications, systems and services. You will be a champion in ensuring that your systems are robust, scalable, follow best practice, meet business targets whilst remaining within budget, and drive a culture of continuous service improvement.


You will work closely with the BSS Delivery Vendor to help ensure that the quality and timeliness of deliveries is achieved.

Some of the key responsibilities will include but not be limited to: 

  • Working with stakeholders across the group for them to understand what their technology can offer and how to work with BSS Technology.
  • Advising on the capability of their technology and how it can be used to meet the needs of TTG, by having an outstanding understanding of the solutions within the role’s portfolio, including the functionality it delivers and the method by which it has been implemented in the underlying technology
  • Advising on the technical roadmap for the products in the portfolio, including upgrades, performance, and resilience options.
  • Working closely with the Business Systems Delivery Manager, Programme and Product Owners to stay abreast of the goals and deliverables across the department’s estate for both the quarter and the year.  You will work with the department manager and peers to ensure that we have the right resources in place to deliver our business goals, and ensure that the BSS Delivery Vendor teams remain focused on the delivery of the key business priorities.
  • Having an excellent understanding of the business functions that utilise the technology in their portfolio, and able to map systems capability to those functions.
  • Able to advise of cross-functional impacts of implementing changes within their technology and facilitating cross-functional engagement to obtain organisational agreement.
  • Acting as an escalation point for incidents related to their Technology and ensuring rapid resolution.
  • Work with Incident and Problem Management to identify root cause of issues.
  • Review (and challenge) estimates produced by the BSS Delivery Vendor via an agreed sizing and estimation model; work with the BSS Delivery Vendor to improve the accuracy of the estimation model on a regular basis.
  • Provide support for Business Analysis and Solution Design to ensure they understand the optimal way of utilising their technology.
  • You will work with the BSS Delivery Vendor to create products and services that reflect a deep understanding of both customer needs and business requirements.
  • You will review progress of the BSS Delivery Vendor throughout the project lifecycle to ensure a continuous high quality of deliverables and seamless go live experience for the organisation.
  • You should have a sound understanding of sizing and planning and have the ability to identify and deliver innovative scheduling solutions.
  • Contribute to the management of department and project risks and issues, including owning and managing mitigation and resolution.
  • Understand what the squads are releasing on a weekly basis and whether those releases are successful.
  • Proactively contribute to and drive the continuous improvement of the department and its practices, including innovation initiatives, automation, and process improvements.

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • In-depth domain knowledge of BSS Business Systems software and data, and all related systems and platforms, including Tibco BW, Tibco BE, Tibco EMS, Oracle, Pega.
  • Proven influencing skills, negotiating skills, and presentation skills
  • A proactive approach to relationship building, stakeholder management, collaborative approach, ability to lead domain conversations and provide advice to peers, management and leadership team including ExCo.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, especially when under pressure e.g. for the resolution of incidents.
