Usage of Azure Storage ranges drastically - from hot access such as disks, to millisecond access such as video streaming data, to cold data such as archival data, and to hyperscale access such as HPC, big data, machine learning, and many more! Each workload brings a new set of challenges and characteristics with formidable problems to solve!

We are striving to turn Azure Storage into not only the ubiquitous Cloud storage service but the only way to store data for any modern and pre-existing application at a large scale. We work toward providing our customers with strong performance guarantees while keeping both their cost and our cost as low as possible, since we operate at a hyperscale and are a foundational infrastructure as part of Azure.

To accomplish this, we are looking to hire a technical lead who would oversee various areas related to our API surface (REST, NFS, etc..), developer experience, and the foundational large-scale service that powers those APIs.

Responsibilities

The Principal Software Engineer's responsibilities include:

1. Oversee various areas/projects and working with the engineers on the team on delivering to our customers. Areas ranges from SDKs to API surface to the backing service.
2. Research and deep-dive into technical issues and bring clarity to the team.
3. Take on challenging problems as needed and work on solving them E2E.
4. Work with PMs and technical leads to understand customer needs and incorporate them into our plan and architecture.

Qualifications

We are looking for strong engineers with the following qualifications:

• You have a Bachelor's/Master's/Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• You have 10+ years of industry software engineering experience in delivering highly available cloud-based services and platforms by successfully working within a large group.
• You are an expert in most of the following areas: Storage, API design (RESTful), distributed systems, large scale services, networking and security.
• You have 8+ years of hands-on experience in designing, writing code in C++ (preferred), C# (preferred) Go or JAVA.
• Excellent leadership and collaboration skills
