Usage of Azure Storage ranges drastically - from hot access such as disks, to millisecond access such as video streaming data, to cold data such as archival data, and to hyperscale access such as HPC, big data, machine learning, and many more! We are striving to turn Azure Storage into not only the ubiquitous Cloud storage service but the only way to store data for any modern and pre-existing application at a large scale. We work toward providing our customers with strong performance guarantees while keeping both their cost and our cost as low as possible, since we operate at a hyperscale and are a foundational infrastructure as part of Azure.

To accomplish this, we are looking to hire an engineering manager to lead our Performance and COGS team, a fundamental team for one of our core layers of the stack.

Responsibilities

The Engineering Manager's responsibilities include:

• Manage the team:  Attract and retain talent while supporting the growth and career development of team members.
• Research and deep-dive into technical issues and bring clarity to the team as needed.
• Work with PMs and technical leads to understand customer needs and incorporate them to build strategies and plans.
• Own planning and ensure top deliverables are met for the success of Microsoft, Azure Storage, and the team.
• Contribute to the technical direction and approach alongside other leads and managers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience managing a team of engineers by setting clear expectations, keeping team members energized, and delivering great results
• 10+ years of industry software engineering experience, including delivering highly available cloud-based services and platforms

• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Design, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent alternative education, skills, and/or practical experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience with web services, storage, cloud computing, and large scale systems
• Prior hands-on development experience including leading architecture for large scale system, designing and writing code, experience in coding in C++ or C#
• Prior experience in Performance optimization of a Cloud service
