Job Description

The successful candidate will be accountable for leading the PMO within the Actuation Systems business. They will be accountable for developing key partnerships between the business leadership and the PM function to ensure not only that business goals in the field of PM are realized in line with the long-range plan of the business but also that they continue to develop and drive the Actuation Systems journey to best in class PM skillset not only within the function but right across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directly leads a small centralized PMO team that has ownership of the best practice standard works, tools and processes that enable the PM output of the business.

  • Provides functional leadership to 100 project personnel covering 5 Value Streams and c.250 projects at any given time

  • Accountable for ensuring that the PMO takes a proactive approach by capturing and embodying lessons learned across the lifecycle. Ensure agility of approach adjusting to meet continually evolving business requirements.  

  • Key partner to all Value Streams and central functions within the Actuation portfolio, driving a ‘One Actuation’ culture across the PMO function ensuring that the Value Stream needs are understood and effectively met to deliver the long range plan.

  • Steward of our best practice processes. Key owner of all PM: policy, process, standard work & training within the Actuation Systems business. Fully accountable for ensuring all aspects of maintenance, upgrade and deployment. Continually maintains an open mind, drawing on the best of the wider Actuation business and beyond to ensure our processes continue to be cutting edge for the industry.

  • Accountable for the definition and deployment of appropriate PM governance in line with Collins Management System (CMS) requirements across the portfolio to ensure projects successfully deliver the baselined business benefits both financial and non-financial.

  • Accountable for the Continuous improvement of the PM function at all levels to meet the challenges of tomorrow. Effectively utilizes CORE toolset to drive root cause analysis of any escapes to ensure PM process maturity is continuously active.

  • Accountable for ensuring that all requirements of Collins Management System and other associated frameworks are discharged effectively for the PM function including providing NAR and SME review support to key projects routinely.

  • Accountable for capability development spanning the full breadth of PM, developing industry leading ‘bench strength’ to meet our future goals. This includes leading the design development and implementation of appropriate training assets to ensure that the Actuation PM function remains a learning driven organization.

  • Is a champion of change within the business. Positively impacts the wider PM community daily while developing our early careers talent pipeline into the PM leaders of tomorrow.

  • Cultural change agent, continually analyses the business for improvement opportunities and takes bold action where required.

Experience & Skills:

  • Requires degree related subject, further advanced level education preferable

  • Customer focus - Takes time to understand stakeholder requirements, effectively plans and executes to meet these and delight customers both internally and externally

  • Coach and develop Project Management staff and wider functions at all levels to continuously develop the PM function pipeline at all levels of the business

  • A true functional partner of the business skilled in collaboration yet able to effectively ensure policy and procedure is applied effectively

  • Subject matter expert within the field of PM with a proven track record of delivering highly complex Engineering/Manufacturing programmes spanning all sectors of the lifecycle

  • Highly experienced in the effective application of business operating frameworks such as Collins Management System within a project context with ability to develop/tailor processes to suit the needs of the business

  • Excellent influencing skills demonstrated at all levels both internally and externally

  • Highly accomplished communicator, utilises a large variety of styles and media to convey message across a full gamut of topics

  • Fully utilise their extended network and influencing skills to gain collaborative agreement with key stakeholders to progress business needs

  • Enable and empower others within the business to be successful

  • Advise and arbitrate on issues which relate to complex or sensitive assumptions, approaches, arguments, conclusions and decisions

  • Financial acumen demonstrated at both tactical and strategic level to ensure that financial goals of the business are effectively planned and executed

  • Develop positive relationship based on trust with both internal and external customers
