At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors (European Pressurised Water Reactor-EPR), the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.
We have a great opportunity at EDF (UK) to join the HPC project as an Engineering Assistant Coordinator, known internally as Conventional Island / Balance of Plant (CIBoP) Area Assistant Coordinator.
As an Assistant Engineering Coordinator, you will assist the CIBoP Area Engineering Coordinator, to coordinate all engineering disciplines to serve the needs for the construction of a given area.
You will operationally manage the designers’ deliverables, including coordination and management of design changes, monitoring and making sure of configuration control, and response to site queries to support construction on site.
This is an excellent opportunity for you as an Assistant Engineering Coordinator, to gain an overview of the HPC project, challenges and drivers. We’ll value your existing skills and experience and there is scope for you to define your own targets, draft programmes and deliver action plans in order to deliver specific project/assignment objectives.
You will be accountable to the CIBoP Area Engineering Manager of the Joint Design Office (JDO), to support the Area Engineering Coordinator to:
• Attend readiness reviews of design packages released for construction, as and when required by design owners.
• Identify issues that could affect nuclear safety, ensuring that processes comply with project quality procedures.
• Coordinate a building to have all the design and construction changes finalised in due time for the construction need.
• Ensure processes comply with project quality procedures.
• Work closely with the design teams, contractor and construction teams to maintain technical quality of responses, construction programme and construction safety.
• Work closely with the delivery and construction team to schedule and prioritise the engineering work to meet site needs.
• Actively report to the Area Engineering Manager on risks and interfaces (technical and functional) and facilitate the resolution of all issues raised.
As an Assistant Engineering Coordinator, you will be characterised by the following knowledge, qualifications and experience:
• Degree qualified or equivalent experience in an Engineering Discipline (preferably Mechanical, Electrical or Civil)
• Identifies opportunities for improvements in information management and manipulation.
• Knowledge of presentational techniques and solid experience in the design of a variety of Civil works or Mechanical and Electrical systems.
• Understanding of contract management, particularly NEC and CDM Regulations.
• Ability to maintain accurate and timely records (whether systems, databases, spreadsheets).
• Identifies opportunities for improvements to procedures processes and/or systems, able to resolve straightforward issues of low complexity/risk in own technical discipline/area.
• Ability to create and facilitate high level presentations.
• Communication and influencing skills.
