Tāmaki Paenga Hira: Tui tui hono tangata, whenua me te moana.

Auckland War Memorial Museum: Connecting through sharing stories of people, lands and seas

Auckland Museum is a much-loved culture and heritage organisation at the heart of Auckland's identity, committed to outstanding management of its world-class collections, developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibition, events, educational programmes and the permanent and volunteer staff who tell the Museum's stories. We are Auckland's home of commemoration as well as the country’s oldest research institution and a major tourist destination.

In this fixed-term contract role (requiring 0.6FTE/24 hours per week until September 2025) the Assistant Curator will support the Curator of Land Vertebrates and Project Curator, Natural Sciences in a range of activities relating to research and exhibition development. There will be additional support for the broader Natural Sciences team on collection development, public and professional enquiries, and assistance with collection management activities.

To be successful in this part-time role, you will offer:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification, or extensive equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Land Vertebrates collections and their research value
  • Knowledge of New Zealand biodiversity that enables a high quality of response to enquiries
  • Experience with public engagement and communicating scientific principles to a broad audience
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting biodiversity research
  • Proven effective verbal and written communication skills, along with strong planning and time management skills

Closing Date: Sunday, 6 March 2022

You must be currently eligible to work in New Zealand to apply for this part-time position. Please review the position description here [link removed], or should you be viewing from within Seek, select the apply button above to access the position description.

Auckland Museum offers a rich and fulfilling work life where we embrace diversity and nurture our bicultural capability as demonstrated in our Teu le Va and He Korahi Maori strategies. We also offer a range of great benefits such as flexible work and leave and an award-winning wellbeing programme.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to be part of a fabulous New Zealand organisation committed to telling our national and Auckland stories, reflecting our unique place in the South Pacific.
