We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to work within TCC’s investment team focused on external public and private funds and related co-investments. Reporting to the Director, Equity & Alternative Investments, the analyst will also work with other members of the team and notably contribute to manage three of TCC’s specialized portfolios. The analyst will primarily help monitoring underlying investments and regularly liaise with external relationships. This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to a broad range of asset classes (including public and private equity, venture capital, fixed income, real estate, hedge funds, private debt, and infrastructure) managed by some of the most successful asset managers in the world. The analyst will be expected to regularly produce top-quality analysis in order to assist the team in making strategic decisions pertaining to the portfolios.
Role and Responsibilities
Assist with the data collection and aggregation of portfolio attribution and exposure reports for internal and external needs and suggest ways to optimize internal processes where required
Monitor the portfolios’ underlying investment activities, involving portfolio companies and assets and write relevant summary reports on a regular basis
Support the team in fund or thematic searches across different asset classes / strategies (hedge funds, public/private equity, real estate, etc.) and related investment due diligence efforts
Support the team in logging and reviewing inbound fund and co-investment opportunities
Provide ongoing research and news coverage of the traditional and alternative investments industries as well as generate market intelligence in order to help the team identify industry trends and associated risks
Maintain close relationships with various internal and external parties, including strategic external relationships, consultants and other business / investment peers
Assist with the performance due diligence meetings (virtual or onsite), travel to annual general investor and other meetings, meetings with investment peers and other relevant industry conferences which may be outside of Montreal and/or Canada at times
Participate in the periodic External Management Investment Committee meetings where general market discussions, idea generation, and the review/approval of external fund/co-investment opportunities take place
Assist the team with initiatives related to TCC’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) effort in public and private investments
Perform various quantitative and qualitative analyses, as well as other duties and ad hoc projects, to help in the day-to-day management of the portfolios as assigned or required and act as a resource person for the team
Qualifications
Education
University undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, commerce, administration, or other relevant field (master’s degree is considered an asset)
Professional qualification such as a CFA or CAIA designation is considered an asset
1 to 2 years of relevant experience
Some alternative investments experience preferably acquired within an institutional environment
Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrate a working knowledge of alternative investments, especially private markets
Possess strong quantitative skills, and be able to manipulate large quantities of data from Excel and other database systems to help prepare summary reports highlighting pertinent information about the portfolios
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
Working knowledge of SQL or Python programming language is considered an asset
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational and time management skills
Bilingual (French/English)
