Job Description

Our mission is to break down the barriers of today to release the potential of tomorrow. Join us today and release yours.

There are two things that we want to share with anyone considering joining us.

Firstly, we’ve got big ambitions for our colleagues and the future of the organisation. These include our vision that inclusion and accessibility drive every conversation we have and every decision we make. We want our workforce to fully represent the communities and customers we serve, because a diverse business is a better business. We value every colleague, their diversity and the contribution that they make. When we say you’re welcome at BT, we really mean it.

Secondly, the one thing the pandemic has taught us is that a lot of current and future colleagues, where and when possible, want to embrace hybrid working. Therefore, we are introducing Smart Working at BT. Smart Working means having the flexibility to choose, as a team, how and where you work depending on your team’s deliverables and needs; when you are at your shared core location to connect with others and when not. It may not be for every role, and, as part of the recruitment process, you’ll have the chance to discuss Smart Working and how it might work for the job you are applying for.

About this role

You will be unlocking commercial value from some of the richest and most exciting datasets in the UK (including those from BT and EE).  You will develop high-quality, ground-breaking and trusted solutions to address customer needs, working closely with the product and commercial teams, as well as BT's Customer Facing and Corporate Units.  The focus of this role is on developing cutting-edge AI including Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology to enable insight and value to be generated from various data sources.  You will need to be able to develop an appreciation of relevant domain knowledge, and to understand and leverage various AI approaches (such as recommender systems, reinforcement learning, sentiment analysis, etc), to develop and enrich business solutions across multiple application areas, driving new revenue streams for BT.

You'll have the following responsibilities

Develop and assess high-quality AI-based solutions, based on large and complex data sets, across multiple projects and product lines, to meet customer requirements.

Ability to harness multiple AI techniques in individual and multiple projects.

Follow best practice for data science and AI design, development and validation.

Collaborate with others outside the immediate team, as needed, to ensure developments are successful e.g. the Applied Research team to harness the latest developments in AI and data.

Clear and transparent reporting on technical progress of projects, identifying and highlighting risks and opportunities as appropriate

You'll have the following skills & experience

Hold a graduate and/or postgraduate degree in computer science, ML, AI, or discipline relevant to AI e.g. social sciences, user-centred design.

Evidence of interest in AI including its application to various commercial opportunities – direct industry experience in AI would be advantageous.

Proven ability to pick up and deploy new AI techniques quickly including supervised, unsupervised, symbolic and sub-symbolic approaches.

Success in solving technical problems with structured and methodical thinking, analysing and exploring the causes of issues.

Expertise in working with data sets both structured and unstructured.

Direct experience of using AI platforms and tools (including cloud-based e.g. GCP).
