Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role

Fisheries New Zealand | Tini a Tangaroa, a business unit of the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), is experiencing an exciting time of innovation and improvement. We have a busy pipeline of work designed to ensure fishing and aquaculture practices maximise value while reducing environmental impacts.

As Adviser or Senior Adviser Strategy and System Design, you will work alongside the team and support the development of strategies and organisational improvements. You will provide analysis that informs how we deliver to our customers and service users. The work you do will help elevate our profile as a responsive regulator with a clear operating model and simple and effective processes that support good outcomes.

The position sits within the newly established Strategy and Governance directorate in a small and influential team. This presents an opportunity for high profile impact. You will be an agent for change and work alongside colleagues and stakeholders to build capability and continue our transformation.

You will:

  • Support strategy development and the delivery of the Fisheries New Zealand | Tini a Tangaroa organisational improvement work programme
  • Support good quality research to inform strategic prioritisation
  • Support operating model refinements and implementation plans
  • Co-design new approaches and processes with a wide range of teams and stakeholders
  • Build support for change within Fisheries New Zealand | Tini a Tangaroa
  • Identify and address risks and emerging issues that may impact our customers, service users, internal teams, or the broader fisheries system
  • Establish relationships, networks, and a strong platform for cross-team communication
