Our client is an insurance company with offices located in North Vancouver looking to hire an Accounting Manager. This Accounting Manager is responsible for accounting operations, including overseeing cash, accounts receivable, payables, deposits, loans, intercompany transactions, and administrative expenses. Additional responsibilities include monthly reconciliation with Treasury reports, year-end audit, GST filing, income tax filings, bonus, tax and dividend calculations. Collaborating with the Controller to ensure that monthly, quarterly, and annual deliverables of the accounting department are met. Coach, train, and develop a high-performing team of 3 direct reports.
About the day-to-day / So what will you do:
• Reviewing and signing off on team members’ reconciliations and entries
• Validating GL account balances including bank reconciliations and analysis
• Troubleshooting suspense and unreconciled items between financial reporting system, subledgers, GL and 3rd party records
• Accounting for fair valuation of derivatives and loans held for sale
• Ensuring adequacy of controls to confirm accuracy, timeliness, and authorization, updating as business requirements evolve
• Improving processes to enhance accuracy, efficiency, controls
• Maintaining the GL: guiding and setting up new entities and fields, vendors, GL and cost centre reporting hierarchy, testing of system upgrades, year-end close
• Developing and improving accounting policies: Accounts Payable process, expense claim, spending and payment limit, capitalization
• CPA designation
• Minimum 5+ years of progressive professional accounting experience
• People manager experience preferred
• Advanced knowledge of finance, accounting, tax, audit, banking
• Ability to investigate accounting standards and recommend accounting treatment related to complex transactions in compliance with IFRS for multiple legal entities
• Experience with preparing, analyzing, and filing tax requirements an asset
• Ability to influence operational/policy changes cross functionally in a positive manner
• Intermediate to advanced level of Excel
• Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail
