THE ROLE:

 

The Corporate Accounting Director is a highly visible position within AMD’s (the Company’s) Corporate Accounting team responsible for leading the Company’s accounting operations and the worldwide monthly and quarter end close and financial reporting activities. This position is based in Santa Clara, California and will report directly to the Senior Director of Corporate Accounting.

 

THE PERSON:

We are looking for candidates with a mix of public accounting and industry experience, extensive knowledge of US GAAP, and a CPA certification. In addition, we are looking for candidates who are willing to challenge the status quo and who are excellent communicators, strategic thinkers and decision-makers. Ideal candidates must take complete ownership of the team and its objectives and be able to deliver on those objectives while working in a fast-paced environment. Also important will be the ability to lead the strategy for the enhancement of processes and technology to improve the speed, quality and scalability of the Company’s monthly and quarterly close process.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the Corporate Accounting worldwide accounting close and consolidations team to accurate and timely report the Company’s financial results in accordance with US GAAP and global accounting policies
  • Lead the monthly and quarterly worldwide accounting close and ensure the timeliness of major milestones and deliverables to get the books closed in accordance with US GAAP
  • Set and communicate guidelines on close activities such as journal entries, reconciliations and the monthly and quarterly financial close meetings with other cross-functional teams
  • Present monthly and quarterly consolidated financial results and analytical review procedures on significant changes period over period to senior management and business partners
  • Maintain effective global accounting processes, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain chart of accounts and other accounting system information
  • Responsible for SOX compliance activities for the worldwide close and consolidation, including ensuring the execution of key controls
  • Liaise with external auditors on the management of the quarterly reviews and the annual audit ensuring timely completion of supporting schedules related to financials audits
  • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce time to close and improve accuracy of underlying accounting records
  • Lead critical accounting automation projects including the design, implementation and maintenance of scalable finance and reporting systems
  • Set the strategy for the work performed by the shared service center supporting the monthly and quarterly consolidation and financial reporting process
  • Provide guidance to the regional and business unit finance leaders on the monthly and quarterly close process
  • Manage a team of diverse and talented accountants at various levels to accomplish tasks accurately and within specified deadlines
  • Assist executive leadership teams with special projects, research and supplemental reporting
     

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Big 4 or national public accounting experience and CPA/CA preferred
  • Public company experience preferred
  • Extensive experience in Auditing/Accounting/Finance
  • CPA/CA or equivalent required
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • SAP experience a plus
