Job Description

Reporting to: Manager, Operations & Maintenance (O&M)

Duties & Responsibilities:

Performs day-to-day maintenance duties for all assigned buildings, developing an organized approach to repairs and scheduling preventative maintenance.

Undertakes basic carpentry duties.

Ensures plumbing and propane tanks are working and there are no leaks.

Checks windows and doors to ensure they are secured properly with locks as required and are in good condition.

Changes any broken or worn fixtures, including light bulbs.

Ensures there is appropriate heating/cooling functionality in the buildings and schedules furnace maintenance.

Notifies supervisor immediately of any significant damage to buildings or equipment.

Flushes waterline systems and checks reservoirs regularly to ensure they are locked and clean.

Provides services to maintain roads which include ensuring culverts are clean and potholes are filled.

Obtains supplies for maintenance as required.

Ensures areas around fire hydrants are kept clear and visible, and that chimneys are regularly maintained.

Inventories all equipment and supplies in the maintenance yard and ensures the yard is clean, tidy, and free of debris.

Creates a safe and healthy environment with well-maintained facilities.

Supports the mission, vision, and values of Williams Lake First Nation.

Contributes to the WLFN’s ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.

JOB #2: Grounds Maintenance Worker (Landscaper & Lawn Mower)

Number of positions available: 2

Reporting to: Manager, Operations & Maintenance (O&M)

Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsible for the cultivation and care of the landscaping and grounds surrounding a business or building. Plants flowers, mows, pulls weeds, repairs structures, and maintains outside of the building.

Perform groundskeeping and building maintenance duties.

Mow lawn either by hand or using a riding lawnmower.

Cut lawn using hand, power, or riding mower and trim and edge around walks, flower beds, and walls.

Landscape by planting flowers, grass, shrubs, and bushes.

Apply pesticide to rid grounds of pests such as mosquitos, wasps, ticks, and others.

Sweep walkway of debris.

Cut down tree limbs that are posing a danger.

Trim shrubs and pull weeds.

Perform minor repairs and maintenance procedures on equipment utilized in groundskeeping.

Rake, mulch, and prune the grounds as needed.

Water plants and grass as needed and apply fertilizer.

JOB #3: Housing Assistant

Number of positions available: 1

Reporting to: Manager of Housing Services

Duties & Responsibilities:

Conducts needs assessment with the community to identify needs and to provide information to external agencies as well as the governing body that feeds the operational plan.

Delivers the provision of housing to community members by adhering to the housing policies and procedures, managing maintenance of the premises through work orders and purchase orders, and arranging for renovations and repairs that meet building codes and standards.

Develops tools and systems to educate tenants, promote reporting of maintenance issues and compliance with policies, and sense of responsibility and ownership.

Coordinates and oversee all housing activities to ensure that houses are maintained, rents, maintenance fees, and arrears are collected, files are kept up-to-date, and tenants are adhering to the policy as set out in housing policy and tenant agreements.

Works with tenants to ensure that housing inventory is kept to a good standard.

Plan, update, and ensure completion and implementation of the housing database.

Assists in preparing regular activity reports and statistics for appropriate agencies and the community. Sets up Housing Committee meetings and creates the agenda, minutes, and other documentation.

Works closely with Social Development in the administration of rents for tenants on Social Assistance.

Gather information and research issues or topics as requested.

Creates newsletters, posters, and brochures, and utilizes a variety of other methods as a way of sharing any related information with targeted populations.

Participates in the Occupational Health & Safety Committee.

JOB #4: Recreation Assistant

Number of positions available: 1

Reporting to: Manager, Recreation

Duties & Responsibilities:

Ensuring delivery of a variety of recreation programs and activities in the community

Developing short & long-term programs and activities to meet the community's recreational needs.

Assist in youth fundraising initiatives.

Observe youth's interactions and promote the spirit of cooperation and kindness.

Identify behavioral problems and assist in determining the right course of action.

Recruit and involve members

in all cultural & recreational activities.

Develop schedules and reports on programs and activities and recommendations for changes if required.

Ensure community recreational sites are kept in good working conditions.

Provide support to the Recreation Team as needed

JOB #5: Natural Resources Management (NRM) Assistant

Number of positions available: 1

Reporting to: Senior Manager, Natural Resources & Economic Development

Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist the team in forest management activities including ecosystem, fire, and wildlife management.

Assist in both office and fieldwork.

Assisting in supervision of forestry crews and activities.

Operational and Landscape Level Planning

Assist with performing fire response system functions and equipment supervision

Knowledge of FireSmart to reduce the wildfire hazards within the forest area and communities by conducting site visits

Attend meetings on various wildlife values.

JOB #6: Water Plant Assistant

Number of positions available: 1

Reporting to: Manager, Operations & Maintenance (O&M)

Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist with operating and monitoring computerized control systems and related equipment in water filtration and treatment plant to regulate the treatment and distribution of water.

Assist with monitoring and inspecting plant equipment and systems to detect equipment malfunctions and to ensure plant systems are operating normally.

Understand how to read flow meters, gauges, and other recording instruments to measure water output and consumption levels, bacterial content, chlorine, and fluoride levels.

Collect and test water samples for chemical and bacterial content, analyze test results and instrument readings and make adjustments to plant equipment and systems to ensure quality control.

Provide verbal or written instructions for process control changes to the waterworks system to ensure water produced meets standardized quality requirements.

Perform security checks in the plant and on the grounds.

JOB #7: Community Cultural Assistant

Number of positions available: 1

Reporting to: Community Cultural Coordinator

Duties & Responsibilities:

Participate and assist with developing and delivering programs to create a Secwepemc culture within all WLFN Departments, community events, and ceremonies.

Engages with and responds to community needs.

Assisting with culturally safe and welcoming, incorporating Indigenous traditional, spiritual, and cultural practices, ceremonies, and teachings, into both the WLFN office and community.

Assist with performing administrative functions such as evaluating, programs, community events, and activities.

Ability to assist and oversee group activities, meetings, gatherings, and ceremonies independently.

Monitors and maintains an inventory of program equipment and supplies and sources and purchases when required.

Supports the mission, vision, and values of Williams Lake First Nation.

Contribute to the WLFN’s ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Eligibility:

The eligibility criteria are as follows:

Must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;

Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and

Must be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

Knowledge:

Understanding First Nations' history, culture, and language would be an asset.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office software at a beginner level will be an asset.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Must be able to obtain and provide an attestation of two doses of federally approved COVID-19 vaccination.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid BC Driver’s License.

Must provide a vehicle in good operating condition and appropriate vehicle insurance to meet program requirements OR access to company vehicle is provided and requires a valid Driver’s License
