Job Summary:

What we’re looking for…

A Show Lighting Design Intern to work as part of the technical show quality team in support of maintaining the highest quality of the shows in the attractions throughout the Disney theme parks. In addition to theatrical and show lighting skills, candidate must have knowledge of Disney motion picture and theme park stories, a strong sense of the Disney brand, and the capacity to work well within a team structure.

Responsibilities:

You will…

  • Promote a safe work environment for Cast and Guests.
  • Supports the restoration and sustainment of show lighting and dimmer systems independent of supervision.
  • Develop and communicate show lighting design concepts.
  • Direct or assist in field implementation of Show Lighting design when required.
  • Research and apply new and emerging lighting technologies.
  • Interface with other disciplines on projects as required.
  • Conduct Show Lighting Reviews on 3rd shift. (50% of work is 3rd shift)
  • Responsible for updating documentation as required, to include show lighting database, schedules, dimmer panels, and show lighting drawings.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to WDI, Engineering Services and other performing divisions and park operators.
  • Provide input for show lighting upgrades to be included in the Infrastructure & Facilities Program(IFP)
  • Participates, as assigned and needed in Post Turnover Support (PTS) activities.
  • Required to work with interns and Associates and provide technical feedback as needed.
  • Participates in the determination of detailed work plans and priorities.
  • Guides the initial and on-going project estimating and scheduling efforts for lighting restoration projects.
  • Works with Art Directors to develop appropriate solutions to SQS issues.
  • Investigates and resolves matters of significance on behalf of WDI and Partners.
  • Responsible for supporting the continued development of the show lighting training program.
  • Responsible for the prioritization, execution, completion and reporting of lighting condition surveys.
  • Identifies issues and partners with others to develop mitigation plans towards long term resolution (i.e.; practices, process, guidelines, standards)
  • Compares alternatives solutions and determines the proper course of actions.
  • Provides support to Attraction downtimes as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

What you bring to the role…

  • 2-3 years in a lighting design program.
  • Ability to work independently on numerous projects of varying levels of complexity from concept to completion.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with a variety of personalities while maintaining an open and positive perspective that reflects confident professionalism.
  • Ability to brainstorm; strong presentation skills and proactive problem solver.
  • Enthusiasm for the Disney product.
  • Full technical understanding of show and theatrical lighting.
  • Requires an excellent understanding of the quality and delivery standards that are required by company SQS and FOS organizations
  • ** MUST POSSESS A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE **

Required Education

  • Currently enrolled as a Junior or higher, or must have graduated from an accredited college/university within the past 6 months, earning a degree in Theater or Lighting design

Additional Information:

Internship Eligibility:

  • At the time of application, must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Must provide full work availability
  • Must provide own transportation to/from work location
  • Current Active Disney cast members must meet Professional Internship transfer guidelines (for Walt Disney World cast members this is no more than four points and one reprimand in the last six months; for Disneyland cast members this is six months of consecutive service and a performance record clear of any disciplinary issues (warnings, suspensions, etc.) for at least six months)

Program Length: The approximate dates of this internship are May/June 2022 - August/September 2022. Interns must be fully available for the duration of the internship.
