Job Description

The Ward Administrator role is responsible for providing timely and effective administrative and reception services to support the operational needs of the second floor ward.

This is a fixed-term role offered at 0.8FTE or 32 hours per week role to be worked Tuesday to Friday from 7 : 30am to 4 : 00pm.

This role is a fixed term role to provide maternity leave cover.

The hours of work will increase to 40 hours per week following completion of additional theatre capacity (scheduled for 2023) or once the ward is fully operational at 22 beds over a five day working week.

Specific duties include :

  • Providing efficient administration and welcoming reception service.
  • Improving on existing and developing new administrative systems and processes.
  • To provide well organised, effective clerical and administrative support for nursing staff and the CNM.
  • Assisting with the management, delegated bed allocation and staff resourcing functions.
  • Ensuring patient information is appropriately managed.

Skills and Experience :

  • Suited to someone who has been in a key administration role for at least three years.
  • Knowledge and experience with computer systems e.g. Word, Excel, Databases.
  • Excellent interpersonal, relation management and communication skills.
  • Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail and time management.
  • Enthusiasm and a proactive, flexible attitude.
  • Ability to undertake multiple tasks simultaneously.

To be eligible for employment at Mercy Hospital Dunedin, applicants must have received all COVID 19 vaccinations and subsequent booster, or have an exemption from the Ministry of Health.

Proof of this will be required and conditional to employment, as per the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) order 2021.
