The BBC is an international multimedia broadcaster on radio, TV, online and social networks with a weekly global audience of 320 million. As part of an historic and exciting expansion of BBC Africa, the BBC World Service has increased its digital operation for the Somali audience and also introduced a daily Somali TV news programme. We are looking for a Senior Presenter with excellent written and spoken Somali to join the team in Nairobi at this critical time.
The BBC Somali Service operates a digital first strategy, publishing content online and on social media platforms, alongside producing radio news and current affairs programmes in Somali. The service’s focus is to produce world-class digital content that makes sense of news and events in Somalia and its neighbouring region for our local and global audiences.

Working closely with other Journalists in the service, the successful candidate will create digital content in multiple formats including audio and video. You will use your knowledge of the digital media market to produce interesting news content for our website and social media platforms.
You will work across all digital platforms to ensure the highest quality content is created for our audiences and conforms to BBC Values and editorial standards.
You will be required to, develop (structure and script/storyboard) and remote produce social and digital content produced by stringers so that the final output is of highest quality.
You will be an experienced journalist with practical knowledge of the digital media market and the ever changing way audiences consume news.
It is essential that you are fluent in Somali and English, both written and spoken.
You have an understanding of news and trends that appeal to the Somali speaking audience in the East and Horn of Africa and the Diaspora. Having the ability to distil complex topics into sharable content is highly desired.
You have the ability to film, edit using FCPX or equivalent video editing software as well as the likes of Photoshop to a high standard is a must.
