POSITION: USM Crew Leader- Jet Truck
DEPARTMENT: Conveyance
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to lead an assigned crew of workers engaged in operating equipment and performing maintenance work on CCWA wastewater conveyance systems.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned crew or co-workers: confers with supervisor to obtain direction regarding work assignments and priorities; organizes tasks in order to complete assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; confers with co-workers, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise; assists with training and instructing co-workers regarding operational procedures and proper use of equipment; assists with supervision of co-workers by reporting employee problems and providing input on disciplinary action and employee performance evaluations.
Receives and reviews work orders: reads and interprets blue prints, roadway plans, and related documentation; determines and gathers equipment, tools, parts, and supplies needed to conduct work activities; ensures availability of adequate parts and materials to conduct work activities; and initiates requests for new or replacement materials as required.
Monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals: initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations; coordinates setup of work safety zones to maintain safety and traffic control at work sites, including flagging of traffic and setup of safety cones, barricades, and road/warning signs; monitors traffic conditions surrounding trucks/equipment to identify obstructions, pedestrians, or unsafe traffic conditions; and reports any incidents, accidents, problems, or unusual situations.
Leads and participates in operating a jet truck to clean sewer lines as part of regular maintenance and accurately determines flow direction in the wastewater line. Uses Remote Cleaning Unit to clean lines outside of the Right of Way. Works with CCTV crews to make sure that lines are properly prepared for televising. Works with contractors to review televising of sewer gravity mains, when needed. Deals with customers and routine complaints and explains CCWA Backup Policy.
Assists plumbers in hydraulic cleaning of sewer lateral lines, cleans up after other crews have finished working on sewer lines, and cleans gravel and sand from filled manholes. Trains crewmembers on how to use and maintain equipment and on CCWA policies and procedures emphasizing safety. Maintains a safe work site by setting up traffic detours and by directing traffic around the work sites. Fills out paperwork such as daily reports, monthly reports, work orders, and repair reports. Washes down areas for other crews after maintenance activities and assists Lift Station Technicians with wet well cleaning/wash down. Maintains tools and equipment used in work assignments. Completes Spill calculation forms for sewer overflows.
Maintains assigned equipment; performs general cleaning and maintenance tasks, which may include inspecting equipment, checking/replacing fluids, refueling vehicles, performing minor equipment repairs, greasing equipment, sharpening blades, replacing parts, washing/cleaning equipment, etc.: monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment; and maintains related records and logs.
Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures; prepares, completes, and maintains work orders, inspection reports, after-hours reports, repair reports, purchasing card forms, confined space entry forms, spill reports, spill calculation forms, locate forms, work logs, etc.
Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, database, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains a jet truck, vac-combo truck, sewer easement cleaning machine, and other tools and equipment.
Communicates with supervisor, other CCWA employees, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Additional Functions:
This position may require on call assignments.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required, supplemented by vocational or technical training in water or wastewater utility repair and maintenance or a related field; supplemented by two years of experience in repair and maintenance of water distribution system components; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License Class A (CDL) including appropriate endorsement(s). Must possess and maintain the following additional certifications or licensures: Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Level 1A, Waste Water Collections, Water Distribution System Operator, or other certifications and licenses as deemed necessary.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
