Greater Wellington Regional Council have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly personable individual to lead activities and initiatives within the Travel Choice Team, Regional Transport. They are a team of dedicated advisors who design and deliver travel demand management and road safety programmes aimed at increasing the uptake and awareness of walking, cycling and public transport across the region.

About the role:

As a Travel Choice Advisor you will lead and support activities and initiatives that increase the use of public and active transport (mode share). You will engage with other Greater Wellington business groups, external partners and a range of stakeholders including communities, workplaces, educational institutions, council partners and mana whenua.

You will support regional transport projects by leading specific activities targeted at opportunities with high mode shift potential. You will use the best evidence available to change travel behaviour and work closely with Greater Wellington’s Customer Engagement team to design and implement digital marketing and engagement strategies.

You will receive training to deliver cycle skills and scooter skills education to students, adults and communities.

About you:

As an enthusiastic and proactive professional, you thrive on engaging, supporting and advising a diverse range of people, organisations and communities. You have or are able to develop strong networks across the sector and build new, collaborative relationships.
You are comfortable with your level of knowledge of Te Reo and tikanga Māori and eager to explore opportunities for your own development.

Skills and experience required:

• Strategic and conceptual thinking skills in order to develop solutions to complex problems or explore new opportunities for initiatives
• Experience working with organisations and local communities
• Detailed knowledge of the theory and understanding of travel demand management or behavioural science methodologies
• Good understanding of transport policy and planning in the Wellington region
• Digital marketing skills and experience
• Enquiring mind and willingness to challenge the status quo
