Job Description

We are a seven year old company baking the best seeded gluten-free bread in Aotearoa, the Freedom Loaf. We’re all about delicious wholesome food and doing things sustainably.  Our bakery is a small operation based at 218 Dominion Road, Mt Eden. We're a team of five who make and supply our products to award winning cafes, restaurants and speciality stores across Tāmaki Makaurau and Aotearoa. 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • We are looking for someone who feels confident in a kitchen.  As mentioned above, baking / bakery experience isn't necessary to apply for this role.  It's a bonus, but we'll provide full training and support for the right person. 
  • The work is methodical and we've got good systems and routines in place to ensure everything runs smoothly. Ideally you'd be the kind of person who likes to get down to it, work through the steps, and produce consistent results. Good attention to detail will help too.  
  • There's a little bit of heavy lifting involved.  You'll be lifting the odd 20kg sack of ingredients, large container of mixes, or sliding 8kg trays of bread in and out of the ovens, so some physical fitness or strength is needed. 
  • We're a small but intersectionally diverse team and we're looking for someone who's respectful of others.  In turn we offer a supportive working environment where there's no tolerance for discrimination or prejudice of any kind.  We enjoy working together and we look out for one another.
  • Customers will be coming by the front window to purchase things so we'd love someone who's warm and welcoming, and enjoys helping people out. 

In addition to your hourly living wage, all your breaks are paid. 

You'll be working at least 15 hours per week across two shifts.  We need someone on a Monday but your second shift could be on either a Tuesday or Wednesday.  The shift hours are generally from 8:00am - 3:30pm, but if you're an early bird, you'd be most welcome to start and finish earlier (one person used to start at 5am!). Also, if you needed slightly more hours, we'd be happy to discuss an additional shift.  

Ideally you can start in early June to allow for training and handover with our departing baker.  If you'd like to start sooner or later than that, we can discuss this. The latest we need someone by however, is the 16th of June.
