About the job

Technical writers plan, create, and maintain educational content as an integral part of the engineering or user experience. The content is often in the form of documentation, but may also be UI text, sample code, videos, or other educational material. Regardless of the content medium, technical writers are distinguished by their abilities to explain complex topics in a way that’s useful to their audience.

Engineering Education (engEDU) provides Google engineers and the world with relevant and timely technical content, learning resources, and tools. We partner with engineers to develop live classes, codelabs, tech talks, and other innovative learning formats. We make continual learning and sharing an integral part of Google’s engineering culture. engEDU has created some of Google's key technical courses. We value new, innovative approaches to education and content, and we enjoy collaborating with teams who are equally aligned and invested in our mission and vision.

Responsibilities

Plan, research, create, and maintain training content on leading-edge technology, including both writing text and building labs.

Edit, clarify, and proofread course material written by others and update existing coding exercises.

Work closely with a team leader to evaluate proposals for courses.

Identify and understand the audience user journeys to address their actual needs.

Propose methods for measuring the success of training programs and share training techniques with fellow technical writers to constantly improve the effectiveness of the team.
