Job Description

The Azure Core team is looking for Senior PM candidates with a Technical Program Management (TPM) focus to work in roles across our team. These opportunities have high visibility, broad scope, and involve identifying and operationalizing new technologies as well as scaling our global systems to accommodate massive growth. Azure Core builds and manages the infrastructure underpinning Microsoft’s cloud offerings (including Compute, Network, and Storage services, as well as higher-level services like Azure Kubernetes Service and Arc).

Successful Technical Program Managers possess excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills. They are often called upon to lead the team in resolving challenging tradeoffs to meet program goals. We build infrastructure services and platforms, so our customers are very technical, and you need to be too. You’ll be working with Product Managers, Software Engineers, and many cross-functional teams (marketing, sales, support, finance, and other product teams) to define and then drive your programs to achieve successful outcomes. We’re hiring broadly for multiple areas; the exact programs will vary based on current business needs across Azure Core. Regardless, you’ll be part of a strategic business with Microsoft-wide impact. You will work as an integral part of our engineering team to define and design high-quality, reliable, secure, intelligent, massively scalable, and automated solutions that give our customers the world-class infrastructure they need to run their workloads in the cloud.

Our team is distributed globally and actively supports hybrid work. We are actively evolving our work style to balance meetings and free time, invent new ways to connect as teams, support personal time away, and create space to focus on employee wellness. While some roles provide the opportunity for business travel, travel is not a hard requirement.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with development teams to discover program requirements, scenario design, program tradeoffs, and delivery schedules
  • Develop trust with a broad set of stakeholders across teams and functions
  • Ability to work in complex environments and large-scale services with fast-changing requirements, priorities, and customer needs
  • Own program communication on roadmap and execution, internally and externally
  • Establish success metrics using OKRs and KPIs. Execute plans to accomplish those goals
  • Drive resolution of technical issues and delivery of world class customer experiences

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of industry experience in technical program management
  • Previous success in an industry program management role leading the development of infrastructure products and services (software or hardware) at scale (e.g., serving thousands or millions of users)
  • Bachelors or higher level degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Design, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent alternative education, skills, and/or practical experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience/knowledge of cloud computing, enterprise computing, infrastructure hardware, IaaS and/or SaaS products
  • Strong technical background and solid understanding of software and/or hardware engineering principles
  • Experience defining and driving metrics-based program management and goal setting (e.g., OKRs, KPIs)
  • Track record for strong cross-team collaboration skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities

By applying to this position, you are being considered for multiple like positions. Position specifics, including hiring team, location and position details, will be determined during the interview process.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Microsoft is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, ancestry, color, family or medical care leave, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, medical condition, national origin, physical or mental disability, political affiliation, protected veteran status, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations and ordinances.  We also consider qualified applicants regardless of criminal histories, consistent with legal requirements.
