Property Services is proud to support New Zealand's first university by providing the best facilities, services and physical environment in which staff, students and the general public can learn, teach, live and play. From overseeing the design and construction of award-winning buildings, fixing broken light bulbs, booking office space, cutting the grass and trimming hedges, we help keep the five University of Otago campuses humming.

The role - Te mahi

In this full-time role, your focus will be on the daily management, planning and coordination of all Building maintenance and project activities by permanent and casual staff, apprentices and external contractors on the University of Otago, Dunedin campus. To be successful in this role you will need excellent people and communication skills.

Key tasks:

  • Manage and supervise the workload, related trades and contractors on a daily basis.
  • Provide professional advice to clients on all Building Maintenance trade matters.
  • Ensure all work carried out meets the required quality and regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to the resolution of any code of compliance issues and building warrant of fitness items.
  • Coordinate with other counterparts in Property services on the maintenance of services on the campus.
  • Documentation management and oversight.

Skills and experience - Ka pukeka me ka wheako

  • Trade specific/Business Management Qualifications.
  • Experience and practical sound knowledge of the Building Maintenance/construction sector.
  • Experience co-ordinating Building/Painting and other trade-related contractors.
  • Client centred with a strong service ethic.
  • Successful record of working in a dynamic team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Results focussed with the ability to effectively manage multiple deadlines and priorities.

Ideally, you will also have one or all of the following:

  • Independent Qualified Person (IQP).
  • Licenced Building Practitioner (LBP).
  • Project or Construction Management affiliations.

This is a full-time, permanent position with 18 direct reports. We offer competitive salary, five weeks annual leave, a 6.75% superannuation scheme, and the ability to achieve real work/life balance. The salary range for this position has been provisionally evaluated as Level 7 (range of appointment $67,080 to $76,262) and is subject to change. You must have the right to live and work in New Zealand to apply for this position.
