The Alcohol Licensing Team at the Council, in conjunction with various external partnership agencies, are responsible for delivering a high quality alcohol licensing service to our customers in the industry and the people of Christchurch.

The Team Leader of Alcohol Licensing is a unique dual role, responsible for providing leadership and operational management of the Alcohol Licensing Team as well as delivering the functions of Chief Licensing Inspector. This ensures that the Inspectorate and Secretariat administration duties are delivered as prescribed under the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, supporting the delivery of the Council's statutory requirements and providing high-quality regulatory outcomes for the wider community.

Leading this team of eight, who deal with both administrative and enforcement matters, offers a wide variety of everyday leadership experiences. They are a high performing and collaborative team, who back each other up when workflows peak, but also know how to have fun.

This role supports both the operational and governance activities associated with alcohol licensing. You will enhance best practice compliance and advocacy skills within the team - leading and encouraging high quality and pragmatic outcomes for our community.

To be successful in this role, you will have proven experience leading and motivating a team and ideally have a tertiary qualification. You will have an extensive background in compliance or investigations, as well as possess the ability to interpret and apply a wide range of regulations applicable to licensing and related activities.
