Job Introduction

BBC Children in Need are looking for a Team Assistant to support our teams across Scotland. This is a 6 month fixed-term contract. We are currently working from home but expect to be working from Pacific Quay, Glasgow in the near future.

The Team Assistant for Children in Need plays a significant role to meet the aims of the charity across the UK.  It provides a support hub to the nation facilitating effective relationships and enabling activity to maximise BBC Children in Need’s impact across the whole of the Charity’s work in improving outcomes for Children and Young People, and to support the Charity to effectively communicate the impact of our work in the UK.

BBC Children in Need exists to make a positive difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. Our refreshed objectives and activities will ensure the impact we have on children’s lives is front and centre of the work the charity undertakes over and above the projects and services we fund.

Role Responsibility

The Children in Need Team Assistant will be a central point of contact for enquiries across the UK. You will provide high standards of customer service and administration when dealing with applicants, grantees, fundraisers and other stakeholders.

You will also

  • Coordinate the smooth running of grant committee meetings
  • Coordinate meetings and other events run by the team and make travel arrangements as necessary
  • Participate as required in grant application and grant process
  • Enter and maintain the accuracy of data held on the grant database, meeting set deadlines as agreed.
  • Undertake contact with grant recipients, including through project visits, and record information in line with portfolio management protocols 
  • Support as needed BBC Children in Need training seminars and similar activities for grant applicants and recipients
  • Participate in building relationships in the sector and attend meetings and other occasions on behalf of the charity as agreed
  • Support the organisation’s influencing activities, based on learning from grant-making
  • Work with colleagues across the organisation to help deliver strategic initiatives

The Ideal Candidate

The Children in Need Team Assistant will have

  • Demonstrable evidence of excellent organisational and administrative skills
  • Strong ability to efficiently prioritise an often busy and diverse workload
  • High level of skill in the use of MS Office software and database information systems
  • Paid or unpaid experience of the voluntary and/or children and young people sector 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate appropriately, in writing or verbally, with people of all types and at all levels
  • Ability to contribute effectively and positively to the team and also to be able to work alone and to take the initiative when appropriate
  • An understanding and sensitivity for the social issues that CiN is raising awareness of
  • Sympathy towards the values of the BBC and BBC Children in Need
