Overview
This is technical and manual work in assisting a surveyor in all aspects of conducting varied survey assignments.
Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Performs complex survey assistant duties, checks the calculations of the surveyor and operates all survey instruments.
- Exercises some independence of judgement and action within established guidelines and procedures, referring more difficult matters to a superior who reviews the work.
- Work includes obtaining information from plans for job layout, traffic control on job sites, delivering information and notices to residents and answering citizen’s concerns.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Sound knowledge of the methods, techniques and equipment used in Municipal survey work.
- Working knowledge of construction and engineering practices.
- Working knowledge of mathematical functions related to the work.
- Ability to check and index field notes, prepare and check calculations and reduce field notes.
- Ability to operate total stations, transit, laser level, level instruments, GPS Survey equipment and perform other duties requiring well developed hand-to-eye coordination.
- Demonstrated ability in the use of software applications including: Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel at and intermediate to advanced level.
- Ability to successfully pass a Police Information Check.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Completion of the 12th school grade supplemented by up to one year of community college and/or specialized technical certification in survey theory course work.
- Up to one year of sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
Working Conditions:
The majority of the work is performed outside in all weather conditions.
