Job Description
Responsibilities include:
- Review screening questionnaires submitted by students to investigate possible underlying neurological conditions.
- Refer students on to relevant further support or diagnostic assessment, including Diagnostic Assessments for Specific Learning Difficulties or NHS support, counselling services etc.
- Provide 1:1 support to students awaiting formal diagnosis of disability and struggling to engage with study, assessing learning support needs and developing a support plan.
- Supporting the student's engagement with open access resources and internal King's specialist support services.
- To keep accurate and up-to-date client case notes ensuring that they are compliant with data protection requirements.
Person Specification:
- Recognised post graduate qualification in SpLDs in HE (or working towards) which entitles the holder to apply for associate membership of
∙ PATOSS (full or associate membership)∙ BDA (full professional membership)
∙ ADSHE (professional membership)
∙ Dyslexia Guild (member, associate or fellow membership)
the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA).
- In depth knowledge of the needs of students with neurodiverse conditions in HE, along with a knowledge of the appropriate strategies for study at this level
- Knowledge of assessing the support needs of individuals
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent and active listening skills; able to work with students/staff respecting boundaries; an understanding of confidentiality
- Competent at operating appropriate IT systems, including case management
- Experience of carrying out individual screenings for SpLDs and referrals for full diagnostic assessments
- Experience of providing one-to-one support in HE
- Organised and professional, able to manage time and resources efficiently
- Ability to remain calm, effective and professional in all circumstances, including in challenging situations when clients may be distressed, vulnerable or antagonistic
- DBS certificate required
