Job Description

Position Summary

The students’ main responsibility is to scan records, shred applicable records and retrieve patient records for the emergency department or inpatient areas and for physicians who are completing their charts. Students must be able to use good judgement and conduct themselves in a professional manner.

This assignment is expected to be eight (8) weeks in duration.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in an educational Program (preferably related to a Health Records or Health Information Management).
  • Must be well organized and able to follow established patterns and specific procedures in a standardized order.
  • Ability to operate office equipment (microfilm camera, microfilm reader printer, photocopier, fax, scanner)
  • Preference for work that is organized, routine, high volume and physically demanding.
  • Adaptability and ability to use judgement while following established procedures.
  • Essential: accuracy, language ability (for medical terminology), attention to details, ability to utilize own initiative and make decisions.
  • Ability to communicate (both verbally and in writing) effectively with physicians, other paramedical staff, and the public.
  • Computer literacy and demonstrated ability with Microsoft office, (Word, Excel) and Cerner system.
  • Ability to set priorities, use excellent organizational and time management skills and to use good judgement either working independently or in a group as a team member.
  • Ability to adapt to high volume work which involves concentration and a great deal of accuracy.
