Reporting to the Head of Credit, Interest Rate and Strategic Risk, there is an exciting opportunity for a professional and talented Strategic Risk Analyst within the Alphabet Risk function. Alphabet’s Risk function (AL-UK-R) safeguards the company’s assets and liabilities from adverse market movements in line with BMW Group Risk Strategy. The Risks that are needed to be steered and managed include Asset Risk, Credit Risk, Interest Rate and Liquidity Risk and Operational Risk. 

This role will play a pivotal part in our success.  In this role you will be responsible for:

 Manage the Risk Appetite process. Work with stakeholders to enhance the framework. Liaise with subject matter experts to identify the current risk position of the portfolio for all relevant risks (e.g. RV, Credit, Treasury, Op risk), and propose suitable initiatives to enhance the risk appetite. Present the proposal to the NRC/Board, and follow-up with subject matter experts who will lead the implementation and provide periodic updates on the progress.

Manage the Stress Testing framework, identifying opportunities to expand and enhance the testing activities, (e.g. ESG tests, reverse stress testing) ensuring coverage of the risk types is appropriate.  Work with subject matter experts to propose a suitable test plan. Gain approval for the test plan at the NRC. Work with the stakeholders to perform the testing activities, ensuring tight deadlines are achieved, and quality of analysis which has been subject to suitable 4-eyes plausibility checks with risk controlling. Consolidate the analysis, and present to the NRC/Board, along with a critical reflection to consider whether any additional reporting could be established, or risk mitigations may be appropriate. Provide transparency on Stress Test results to central functions. Ensure thorough understanding of the central risk functions methods for performing stress testing, and the results of central tests.

Manage the annual risk inventory process. Complete the risk catalogue provided by central strategic risk, providing context with transparency on the relevance and materiality of potential risks. Complete the Risk Inventory results document. The undertaking of the risk inventory process provides a valuable opportunity to challenge the appropriateness of the existing strategic risk framework and identify any opportunities for enhancement. Present the Risk Inventory to the relevant committees for approval. Share the result with central functions and provide in-depth insight into the risks within the portfolio, including the management, monitoring and local mitigations of the risks.

The incumbent is the owner and author of the local Risk Strategy document. Responsible for ensuring this comprehensive document is continually reviewed and updated, at least on an annual basis, and with any major change within the business and/or the risk framework. Present the Risk Strategy to the NRC for approval, share and discuss the updated document with central functions, and also with external functions (External Audit, FCA) when requested.

Monitor the risk limits and KRI’s of the portfolios, from actively reviewing the country risk reports and local risk reports. Work collaboratively with local risk controlling to identify additional risk reporting which may be appropriate. Highlight potential risks within the portfolio, and propose suitable action plans to mitigate the risks to the CRO/ Head of Credit, Interest Rate and Strategic Risk

Work collaboratively with the CRO and Head of Credit, Interest Rate and Strategic Risk in ensuring an appropriate risk culture within the business, including updating the local Risk Culture document and working on cultural related initiatives.

Liaise with the central strategic risk functions to keep up to date with central strategic risk methods, models, guidelines and wider activities and initiatives which impact the market. Update the local strategic risk framework based on the central developments.

Periodically update (as the author) the local Strategic Risk procedure.

 Secretary for the AL-UK National Risk Committees, setting the Agenda, reviewing the NRC material, writing comprehensive Minutes and assisting in the follow-up of items.

Qualifications

Skills & Experience

Knowledge of Financial services industry, preferably with knowledge of Captive Finance & Financial Leasing businesses.

Understanding of BMW Group organization and structure is advantageous.

A good working knowledge of Microsoft applications. Expert skills in PowerPoint to clearly document complex topics in simple terms to ensure the underlying issues/situations are succinctly and accurately presented.  Good working level of excel and word skills to create analysis and write reports.

Strong coordination skills to plan work initiatives, scheduling checkpoint meetings with stakeholders, and ensuring delivery to tight deadlines to present at Committees and Board meeting.

Experienced Secretarial skills for the writing of Minutes and other summaries for the National Risk Committees.
