Job Description

  • Leading Brain Injury Rehabilitation Provider
  • Kenepuru & Tawa Location
  • Personal & Professional Development
  • Inpatient & Community (Outpatient) Rehabilitation
  • Dynamic Inter-Professional Team

ABI Rehabilitation is the lead provider of intensive in-patient brain injury rehabilitation in New Zealand, serving 18 of the 20 DHBs.  We are the only provider in Australasia to have attained CARF Accreditation, an international gold standard for person-centred, quality rehabilitation.

A full time, permanent position has become available to join our progressive inter-professional team.  This role will involve providing speech and language therapy services in the Inpatient and Community (Out-patient) services – covering the immediate post-acute stage through to community re-integration and Outpatient phase.

We are seeking a NZ Registered Speech and Language Therapist with a minimum of two years’ experience; working in neurological rehabilitation is preferred, however, open to all candidates based on experience.  You will work alongside experienced SLTs, and contribute to key clinical areas including:

  • cognitive-language and cognitive-communication assessment, management of expressive and receptive language difficulties, feeding and swallowing, motor-speech, and augmentative-alternative communication
  • implementing and evaluating rehabilitation plans and strategies
  • providing education and training to family and whanau
  • contributing to outcome measures
  • report writing
  • ongoing training and development of our staff

Knowledge in cognitive-communication disorders, dysphagia, aphasia, dysarthria, augmentative-alternative communication devices, and cognitive rehabilitation is required.  Having tracheostomy management experience would be an advantage, but not essential.  Previous experience in acquired brain injury rehabilitation is highly preferred.

We can offer excellent opportunities for personal and professional development within a supportive team environment.  Regular supervision and in-service training will be provided.

We welcome your inquiries and the opportunity to discuss your requirements in more detail.
