We are looking for an enthusiastic Sous Chef to work in our Small Mess at our Defence site in Waiouru. This role is a Full-Time role working across 7 days a week, 4 shifts on 4 off, between 9-12 hours per shift. Immediate starts available for the right candidates!
Waiouru is is located on the south-eastern North Island Volcanic Plateau, 130 km north of Palmerston North and 25 km south-east of Mount Ruapehu, 30 minutes from Taupo and similar distance from Ohakune (takes you longer to get to work in Auckland!). World renowned Tongariro National Park and Whanganui National Park set the backdrop for truly unique New Zealand experiences. The community is proactive and offer plenty of events you can chose to be a part of.
Ko o kawenga / Your responsibilities:
In this position you will be responsible for the preparation, cooking and presenting between 100-500 meals whilst ensuring the quality of every dish we serve! You will need to be able to cook a la carte, standard home-style meals along with bulk salads, within budget, assist with ordering and menu development as well as ensuring the health and wellbeing of our customers through allergen and nutrition management. You will be able to work unsupervised and also in a team environment, assist with receiving and storing kitchen supplies, apply catering control principles, follow company's policies and procedures, and maintain consumers' satisfaction.
This position is all go. On one day you will need to be able to produce meals in large volume whilst on another serving an la carte menu, another a five star dinner or regimental dinner and always to strict timelines. You will need to be flexible in the areas you work and on occasion take the responsibility for running the kitchen.
He kÅrero mÅu / About you:
If you're our perfect candidate you will be hard working, with a friendly outgoing personality and a 'can do' attitude. You will already have at least 3 years' proven work experience in a similar role, bulk cooking and fine dining experience and you will hold food safety certificates (Unit Standard 167 and 168). Bakery experience is not essential but is a bonus. Full licence ideal. You will competently juggle multiple demands within a challenging environment but, most importantly, you will demonstrate a can do attitude, a passion for great food, customer service and quality.
