Job Description

Solution Architect - Marketing

As a Solution Architect, you will be responsible for translating the needs of ASOS into technical designs which can be moulded into high performing, highly available, extensible and efficient software systems. The Solution Architect role is one of the keystones in the delivery of business solutions and the advancement of our technology.

Marketing has a broad infrastructure covering 3rd party systems such as a Data Platform, ESP’s, Mobile Messaging applications, Data Visualisation, TAG management, CMS, DAM and Social Platforms plus a collection of in-house services that we build and scale in Azure/Google cloud such as our transactional messaging service, marketing data set and dynamic image management service. These are all underpinned by our rich data to power targeted data driven messaging across customer touchpoints. We are in the process of delivering increasingly personalised experiences to help our customers discover products which delight them.

About the role:

You will

  • Have overall responsibility for designing solutions that may involve a combination of in-house enterprise-grade solutions and COTS products across one or more teams and/or third parties based largely (but not exclusively) on the Microsoft Technology stack.
  • Be responsible for the design of content, communication, marketing, student and other services, with increasingly personalised information
  • Be responsible for identifying, assessing and selecting the most appropriate technologies, architectural styles and patterns needed to deliver a software solution
  • Support project and programme management to understand, communicate and manage technical dependencies across platforms and projects
  • Work closely with the Lead Software Engineers and their associated teams to ensure that solution designs can be translated into working, high quality software, and that any technology selections or architectural styles are clearly articulated to the team
  • Develop strong relationships with your Platform Lead, Business stakeholders, Product Owners and other Platform Teams; both within IT and across the organisation in order to guarantee that solution designs map to the requirements of the business and are aligned to the roadmap of partner teams and the wider strategic roadmap of the company
  • Ensure that any non-functional requirements, environmental or technology constraints are captured, considered and addressed as part of the solution design
  • Work with the Principals and engineering peers to ensure the continual improvement of the architecture and engineering practices
  • Work with the Data Service and AI platforms to extend our data driven marketing strategy to all customer touchpoints, utilising scientific models to target and personalise the messages a customer can view
  • Guide and mentor within the teams you work with, and provide feedback to the line managers around performance and reviews; and seek out and actively promote ideas and techniques in the community – both within ASOS and externally
  • Be familiar with the secure development life cycle and ensuring that your solutions are secure by design and adhere to regulatory requirements through using and leading such practices as threat modelling and risk assessments.
  • Understand the security and fraud threats that affect an eCommerce business and any regulatory requirements that the business must follow.
  • Be an ambassador for the technical capability of ASOS Tech both internally and externally

About you:

  • Excellent and proven design capabilities, preferably in a micro-services architecture as well as working with and influencing 3rd parties to develop the right solution
  • Proven experience of helping teams to successfully deliver complex, highly performing and high-quality software systems, both from Engineering and Architectural standpoints
  • Experience shaping both functional and non-functional requirements, ideally within a high-volume consumer facing and/or e-commerce environment
  • Ability to assess 3rdparty products and technologies, along with being able to evaluate whether to take a build or buy approach
  • Experienced at effectively communicating technical designs to both technical and non-technical audiences; familiar with modelling languages and producing formal design artefacts to convey designs, but is equally comfortable translating them into a higher-level view
  • Experience of the full software development lifecycle, along with an appreciation of quality assurance, continuous integration/delivery, and the benefits of automation.
  • Experience and understanding of Agile practices and the ability to gauge the appropriate amount of up-front design that will be required to ensure the team can build, but are not overly restricted or constrained by the design should changes be required
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, being able to adapt according to target audience.
  • Strategic thinking, delivering artefacts such as future state architectures and roadmaps that consider the wider and longer-term implications while maintaining pragmatism.
  • Appropriate planning to support the delivery of core capabilities in a fast-paced environment while ensuring suitable rigor.
  • Industry experience in eCommerce, particularly retail.
  • Experience in a broad range of technologies and their implementation, including at least some of the following (although other cloud technology experience may be transferable):
    • Latest versions of .NET Framework., .NET Standard and .NET Core (C#)
    • Kubernetes/AKS/ACS/Cloud Services
    • Azure Service Bus/Event Hub
    • Azure Cosmos DB, SQL DB
  • Advantageous Experience
    • Delivery of high scale messaging systems and knowledge of 3rd party Marketing Platforms
    • Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform

Why work here:

  • Generous Salary, bonus and pension matching
  • Great development programs
  • 25 days’ holiday + 1 day for your birthday
  • Subsidised gym and canteen
  • Huge staff discount and regular sample sales
  • Life Insurance, medical care, cycle to work
  • And plenty more…
