Role: Senior Software Engineering Manager
This is a hybrid role with a business that is located at the foot of the beautiful Malvern Hills in Worcestershire. This is an opportunity to be part of a dynamic and innovative team that supports international and domestic customers who are 'interested to know what is happening in places they cannot be'. Purpose of the Role:
We are looking for an energetic and motivated Software Engineering Manager with strong communication, organization and technical skills who works well in a multi-disciplinary team. You need to be trustworthy and proactive with relevant engineering experience and proven leadership skills. In the role you can expect to be responsible for multiple concurrent projects, build and manage diverse teams of engineers, formulate and execute strategies and coordinate with other managers. In addition we expect you to research and develop new or existing designs and products, propose budgets for projects and oversee the software activities related to each project. You must have exceptional foresight, great communication skills, working knowledge of different engineering disciplines and how they relate to one another and an aptitude for managing risk.
The responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Forecasting resource needs and makes hiring decisions
Participating in design and development planning meetings to help develop solutions that meet business requirements
Leading engineering, technical, and managerial direction for problem definition, analysis and requirement development
Use technical knowledge of advanced development concepts, practices and procedures to help deliver software solutions
Facilitating Cross-Team and Cross-Location communication and collaboration
Manage risk to release timelines by closely collaborating with the development team and program management to get past blocking issues
Ensure that engineering quality goals (test coverage and automation) are met or exceeded by their development team
Set performance goals for team members
Facilitates and ensures individual and team roles and responsibilities are understood
Drive execution of the Business and Programme strategies within the SW team
To be successful you will have the following Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
Essential
BS/MS or higher degree in Software Engineering or related technical field
A self-starter, needing little direction and capable of working in a fast-paced development environment
Experience in an agile and scrum environment, working in cross functioning teams and writing and estimating user stories
A passion for improving performance and reliability of engineering systems
Excellent communications skills with the ability to talk to customers, developers, and senior technology leaders
Excellent judgment with ability to hire and develop great people
Experience in building and Leading a team of engineers of all different levels and skills
Participated with team on setting goals and growing their careers
Experience having hard conversations with teammates in an open, honest and direct way
Desirable
In-depth knowledge of ISTAR technologies and systems
Knowledge of DevOps and associated software tools
Knowledge of networks, virtualised systems (ESXi), Windows Server, Linux, Docker, Veeam and/or Kubernetes
Previous experience of Electro-Optic imaging, Radar or ESM systems
