Due to exciting growth in our Quality Engineering team, we are looking to increase our capability in the testing space. This role will be providing leadership to Software Engineering staff and services across MBIE ICT.

Quality Engineering is a newly established team at MBIE as we move swiftly into becoming a Digital Agency. We are tasked with building quality checks and measures into our software and technical delivery. Our team is focused continually improving our ways of working and leveraging technology to drive this. This includes Cloud technology, automation, DevOps, and infrastructure as code.

About the role:

 

Reporting to the Software Engineer Team Lead this position is a specialist role with the purpose of delivering solutions for MBIE. The Software Engineer will take ownership of the development, implementation, and delivery of complex custom projects. They will take a strategic view and uses leading-edge thinking and tools to develop and deliver solutions for the development and delivery of solutions while working with peers and internal customers to ensure successful outcomes:  

  • The point of contact for reporting and resolving problems  
  • A positive contributor to the wider Quality Engineering team  
  • A champion for development best practices including validation, continuous monitoring, and continuous improvement  
  • Responsible for ensuring the quality technology is being delivered and maintained

Skills and experience required:

 

  • 5+ years’ experience in ICT development and build delivery including modern development practices  
  • Experienced in Application Development including but not limited to .NetCore, Java, C#, Angular 
  • Experience using Azure DevOps, pipelines, Azure Services or similar is desirable  
  • Has demonstrated experience in working and integrating with SaaS products  
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in modern development techniques  
  • A curious mind and a desire to learn about technical innovations and how they may be applied to the MBIE environment  
  • A willingness to learn skills in new technology to achieve a common goal  
  • An analytical mind who can make connections between various aspects of the organisation and can contribute to a cohesive approach across all aspects of a technology-enabled business  

   

Pre-requisites:

  • A tertiary qualification, relevant IT certification or equivalent experience  
  • Strong Advocate of Agile and DevOps delivery methodology, working experience is required  
  • Certification or equivalent qualification or experience in modern software engineering practices    
  • You must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand
