Job Description

WSD is responsible for keeping the Windows ecosystem always up-to-date to ensure customers are protected and productive. The work encompasses engineering of changes to the Windows OS and working on the multitude of cloud services that are part of the robust pipeline required to efficiently deliver these changes to over a billion customers in consumer and enterprise scenarios across on-premises and cloud configurations.

 

The team provides opportunities in multiple areas of interest, spanning across operating system internals, scalable services for supporting the delivery of updates to a vast and heterogeneous ecosystem that’s constantly growing, and intelligent monitoring of the health of that ecosystem. Continuous efforts to improve internal engineering systems leveraged by the team, always considering industry standards to improve efficiency and agility of the team. WSD provides programs and services to promote development agility, experience coherence & customer engagement and fuels growth in our security business through device and cloud innovations.

 

The Build and Publishing Services team are seeking highly driven and motivated Software Engineers who will be responsible for all aspects of service execution and life cycle (design, development, quality assurance, production deployment, service availability & reliability, and live site monitoring).

Responsibilities

 

  • Modernization of workflows that support the Servicing pipeline.
  • Design and implement real-time telemetry pipelines and monitoring solutions on world-class big data technologies in Azure to automatically discover problems at their source
  • Build auto recovery\mitigation solutions based on reliable telemetry signals
  • Continuous improvement through monitoring, reporting and recovery tools.
  • Review and influence ongoing design, architecture, standards and methods for operating software defined network services and systems; assess design and code changes to drive improvements.
  • Do whatever it takes to create high-quality, actionable signal out of vast amounts of constantly evolving data in real-time]
  • Conduct periodic on call duties and live site support.

Qualifications

  • A BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years software development experience and experience in testing, deploying, operating, and supporting medium to large scale services.
  • Experience as a Service Operations or Service Engineer directly supporting development and test in a product team environment
  • You understand how to use concepts like abstraction and inversion of control to ship testable, reliable, and maintainable code - C#, C++\C, Python or Java
  • Capable of technical deep dives into service and systems design, data processing and data movement pipelines, networking, storage, monitoring, security, and capacity planning
  • Great design and problem-solving skills, with a strong emphasis on quality and engineering excellence
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability to deliver projects and results of increasing technical complexity and ability to handle ambiguity
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written and ability to work well in a diverse, team-focused environment
  • Passionate about sharing your experiences and knowledge, growing, and mentoring your peers
