Workloads range from "born-in-the-cloud" services to enterprise applications migrated from customer data-centers.

The One Fleet Control Plane, the kernel of the Azure cloud, is a fault-tolerant distributed system built on commodity data-center hardware. Within the One-Fleet team, the Holmes team provide dynamic resource management capabilities to Azure cloud. Holmes services improve customer availability and platform efficiency by running placement reshaping, de-fragmentation, overbooking, transparent maintenance and several other algorithms integrated together for better experience and efficiency. In this role, you will be working on highly available, and event-driven microservices to enhance customer experience, collaborating with Microsoft research, and building intelligent algorithms integrated with ML models.

If you are interested in distributed systems, if you enjoy algorithms and efficiency, if you seek opportunities for high impact on Microsoft's core business, then this is the role for you.

  • Participate actively in code reviews, bug/issue triage with the feature teams, and support well informed decisions towards business and engineering goals.
  • Review and influence ongoing design, architecture, standards and methods for operating services and systems; assess design and code changes to drive improvements.
  • Conduct periodic on call duties.
  • Collaborate with partner teams to drive customer features and platform efficiency improvements across the One Fleet Control Plane.
  • Deliver high quality of service to Azure customers through live-site excellence.
