This is a unique opportunity for an experienced software engineer with a strong, fullstack technical background to play a critical role in the success of Microsoft Shopping and our broader marketplace ambitions. Responsibilities range from leading technical due diligence of different approaches, architectural brainstorming with engineering managers and other architects, evangelizing and garnering support from potential strategic customers/partners, and working with engineers, PMs, and data scientists to select high-level service abstractions to evolve our infrastructure. 
  
The Shopping organization is growing rapidly and heavily investing across the board to build core capabilities across the stack to scale out to billion+ users and devices and in doing so build tech that has never been done before.  To help us achieve our ambitious goals, we are looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer/Applied Scientist who is passionate about e-commerce and building shopping technologies across various shopping formats be it search, marketplace or content browsing. As a leader on our team, this person will build systems at massive scale and complexity across the stack including but not limited to user acquisition, retention, hockey stick growth and likewise. You will do this by effective collaboration with various stake holders across Microsoft, and building latest and greatest tech for Data intelligence / insights leveraging latest advances in NLP and deep models.

Key responsibilities

• You will formulate approaches to solve technical problems in the context of customer, engineering and business needs. 
• You will collaborate across the company including research teams to adopt the latest technologies. You will come up with innovative solutions to address customer challenges 
• Coach great engineers and be a great role model of a service quality first -obsessed and data-driven engineering leadership. 
• Anticipate, identify, assess, track and mitigate project risks and issues in a fast-paced start up like environment. 
• Work with the business owners to help frame broad questions into concrete, relevant data-driven solutions and metrics.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience in software development 
• 2+ years of experience in shipping scalable cloud services  

Preferred qualifications:

• Strong problem solving, design & coding skills 
• BS or MS degree in Computer Science or Engineering 
• Great communication and teamwork skills
• Able to work in a high-performance team
• Familiarity with shopping/ecommerce is a plus but not required, as is broader experience in distributed computing, containers and microservice architectures, and familiarity with Azure or other cloud services.
