We're teaching computers to watch TV. We're doing that to find issues that will spoil the experience for our customers, and so we can do that at scale beyond what is possible manually.

Amazon’s Prime Video is a premium on-demand video entertainment service that offers customers the greatest choice in what to watch, from popular Prime Original TV shows (made by Amazon Studios) such as The Grand Tour, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and the recent Golden Globe winning The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel to Prime Original Movies like the Oscar-winning Manchester by the Sea and The Salesman. The service also offers TV shows that are exclusively available for Prime members in each country such as American Gods, MR ROBOT and Outlander, and more recently live sport including 37 ATP matches, as well as the US Open and Premier League games exclusively from 2019. Beyond this, the service further differentiates from other video-on-demand services by offering Prime members the opportunity to subscribe to 60+ channels like Discovery, Starz, Eurosport Player and Hayu and hundreds of thousands of additional titles to watch instantly with no extra apps to download or long term contracts. Key job responsibilities
The leader of this team owns the design, build and operation of a highly-scaled, critical service running on AWS. We are the monitoring eyes and ears for must-not-fail live events, 24/7 streaming channels, catalog content verification, and provide the validation of playback operations for devices. You will lead processes across the full software development lifecycle, including setting the vision, product outputs and their delivery. To do this, you will need to be creative, balance risks and communicate difficult technical concepts to leadership, reporting progress and outcomes. You will take on organisational goals to onboard new customers. increase scale, reduce latency, and reduce cost. It's an exciting and challenging space. Success requires collaboration with other research and operational teams who will use the technology your team builds.

A day in the life
We are looking for a Software Development Manager to join the Video Quality Analysis (VQA) team. In this role you will lead a group of Software Development Engineers to build and operate the next generation of automated audio/video analysis at Amazon scale. Our business growth exceeds the capacity for people to monitor 1000s of global broadcast channels, 50,000+ annual live events across a wide variety of video formats, encoder profiles and monitoring points. This role requires a pragmatic technical leader comfortable with ambiguity and interest in Machine Learning and Computer Vision/Audio/Video. Your responsibilities will include leading the strategic vision, executing on all aspects of software engineering, and Operational Excellence of your organisation. You will play a key role, cooperating with teams across Amazon to deliver software products and features to the highest standards. As a people leader, you will be a coach and mentor to your engineers, set them up for success and develop talent. You will have the freedom and encouragement to explore your own ideas and the reward of seeing your team's contributions delight millions of Amazon.com customers worldwide.

About the team
We are a deeply technical team. We obsess over big picture problems like "How can I monitor the quality of every stream that every customer receives?" to low level details like "Will I get better performance or lower cost running algorithms using GPUs?" We are experts in the use of cloud technologies, continually grow our AWS skills, and have Certified Professionals on the team. We strive to be on the forefront of new consumer technologies like UHD TV and High Dynamic Range video. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Experience working directly within engineering teams.
· Experience partnering with product OR program management teams
· People management experience, managing engineers.
· Experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
· Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing Software Development Engineers.
· Demonstrable knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle.
· Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
· A proven track record of software delivery through all phases of development and developing long-term development and business technology strategies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Hands-on expertise in many technologies across the full stack, typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end systems and data stores and all points in between.
· Experience of building and operating highly-scaled cloud services
