Our focus in the Alexa Knowledge Library team is to provide customers with informative, educational, and engaging long-form factual content, and provide content creators the tools and support required to reach and engage Alexa customers. Alexa Knowledge Libraries have their home in Alexa AI.
The problems we solve in the Alexa Knowledge Library team in London allow customers to access knowledge, from a broad range of content providers, allowing them to be immersed in deeply engaging narrative content from diverse content owners. We fundamentally change the way our customers access and enjoy knowledge and explore information, through intuitive voice-first experiences and delightful visual experiences.
Whilst we’ve solved many complex problems to get where we are today, there are still plenty of challenges ahead of us as we rapidly expand the opportunities we are opening up for our customers, and our content provider partners & developers. As the manager leading the Alexa Knowledge Library team, your role is to own these problems for our customers and partners worldwide, think big and answer them. You will lead a team of talented engineers, influencing and collaborating with cross-functional teams in business development, product and design, partner engineering and delivery teams and finance. You will own the strategic vision and roadmap for your program. You will lead your team in building software in ambiguous and complex domains, in a fast evolving space; you will lead your team in seeking simple solution, driving engineering best practices. You will work resourcefully, proactively and independently to deliver high business impact through your systems. You show good judgement in making technical trade-offs between your team’s short term business or operational needs and long-term technology needs. You will be working with other leaders in the Alexa AI team, driving mindful discussions with your peers and customers.

You will actively participate in the hiring and developing of others, contributing to professional development of colleagues.
Your responsibilities will include:
· Lead the strategic vision for the Alexa Knowledge Library
· Through your team, define, design and construct of features that delight consumers and compel them to engage despite an abundance of alternatives and distractions
· Contribute to the development of the product strategy and vision supported by internal and external analysis
· Influence and collaborate with partner engineering teams in Alexa
· Drive dialog with engineering teams and program management across multiple products to deliver integrated services
· Proactively identify and resolve strategic issues that may impair the team’s ability to meet strategic, financial, and technical goals
· Experience working directly within engineering teams.
· Experience partnering with product OR program management teams
· People management experience, managing engineers.
· Experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
· Bachelor’s degree or higher with a technical discipline
· 7+ years of consumer facing software development management experience
· Experience coordinating complex product development cycles and software development schedules
· Experience directly managing technical teams, planning, leading and assessing delivery of technical products and services
· Experience with the full software development life cycle, including source control system, code reviews, build processes, testing, and operations; with a track record of delivering stable and scalable systems through others.
· Exemplary verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated experience engaging and influencing senior executives
· Excellence in technical communication both in writing and in person with technical and non-technical peers, as well as robust project planning/execution skills including estimating, scheduling, and executing on committed schedules across multiple teams.
· Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to use data and metrics to back up assumptions and recommendations and to drive actions
· Experience with hiring, developing, performance management and mentorship of engineers
· High attention to detail including precise and effective customer communications and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where continuous innovation is critical
· History of teamwork and willingness to roll up one’s sleeves to get the job done
· Proven track record of taking ownership and successfully delivering results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
· MBA or Master’s degree
· Practical experience of Amazon Web Services (AWS) technologies
· Experience in Software Development in fields incl. Machine Learning, Computational Linguistics, Natural Language Processing, Semantic Web, or Applied Mathematics
· Experience in effectively partnering with and delivering alongside research and applied scientists
