Job Description

About this role

We are strengthening our internal digital capabilities and looking for new talent as we expand our engineering team. Uncompromising in delivering quality  solutions to our enterprise customers, we’re looking for a talented software developer to bring their ambition, drive and proven track record of delivery to a broad portfolio of digital properties.

The Engineering Exploration team is new and still being formed – you can shape its course. We’re tasked with stepping outside the regular product  development roadmap and trying something new, assessing complex technical scenarios on our web properties and proposing solutions that may involve technologies not yet in general use internally.

This role is part developer, part architect, part analyst, part researcher. We need someone with a broad range of web development and associated technical skills, as well as excellence in communication and a respectful and generous approach for collaborating and sharing knowledge. You’ll be building strong relationships across the organisation, and leading ‘spike’ projects to rapidly get up to speed with diverse systems and technologies. You will have the opportunity to innovate on digital products with greater freedom than other parts of the organisation, and will bring others along for the journey.

This is the ideal role for a developer whose curiosity knows no bounds, and who wants the opportunity to get stuck into interesting problems with broad autonomy for exploring non-traditional solutions.

You'll have the following responsibilities

Lead research and POC initiatives to increase our product engineering effectiveness through innovative technologies and alternative approaches

Build strong relationships with subject matter experts and technical teams both within Enterprise CDO and in the broader organisation, being a visible evangelist for the team and its successes

Contribute strongly to the development of inner source initiatives within the team, promoting open collaboration between squads and tribes and sharing your knowledge broadly

Assess the business value of new technologies and technical solutions, and drive their adoption into product squads

Work autonomously to seek new challenges in optimising our digital journeys, building ad-hoc teams to solve problems faster than working alone

You'll have the following skills & experience

Broad familiarity with web development processes, technologies and best practice HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React (Desirable)

Broad familiarity with web application architectures, including cloud-native infrastructure choices (AWS)

At least 5 years’ experience working in technical roles, solving a variety of business problems

Applied knowledge of a variety of content management systems

Applied knowledge of modern development tooling and automation techniques

Confidence leading code reviews and implementing scalable development processes

Confidence articulating technical concepts to a non-technical audience

Exceptional attention to detail and communication skills, with a collaborative approach

Familiarity with Git and other version control systems

Experience working with complex code bases and analysing environment logs

Familiarity with digital sales practices and marketing automation systems (Desirable)
