Separations Lab Technician-LGC Analytical Standards

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-driven Full-Time Permanent Separations Lab Technician to join our LGC Analytical Standards team. This position is based out of Toronto, ON and reports into the Supervisor, Separations Lab.

Position Summary

Provide, complete, and be responsible for tasks related to purification of compounds from synthetic projects in the lab. Contribute to a safe working environment and maintain an accurate record of all work, with attention to reproducibility and cost.

Key Accountabilities

Work Safely

Be able to set up and organize equipment so that it is run in a safe manner, with guidance from the Lab Supervisor or Team Lead

Abide by health and safety guidelines prescribed by governing bodies and the TRC Environmental Health and Safety Committee.

Maintain an organized workspace

Assist other Chemists in the Lab with their Projects through

Automated purification with Biotage/Teledyne units, normal and reverse phase, including taking TLCs of fractions, combining, concentrating and drying them

Purification by manual column chromatography, normal and reverse phase, including taking TLCs of fractions, combining, concentrating, and drying them

Optimization of manual column chromatography

Purification by preparative HPLC

Purification by simple and fractional distillation

Maintain a Reasonable Level of Productivity

Complete 2-3 purification tasks per day

Improve through experience

Keep Good Records

Keep a notebook that can be read, understood, and reproduced. May require clarification after auditing by the Lab Supervisor

Perform other duties and complete additional projects as assigned

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or similar degree or related experience

Willingness to learn is essential

Ability to assess and prioritize tasks

Familiarity with principles of chromatography

Good interpersonal awareness

Good analytical thinking

Courtesy and efficiency with shared equipment and workspace

Entrepreneurial mindset and initiative

Flexibility and adaptability
