Evolving Transport
Transport for NSW is delivering an unprecedented $72.2b investment into a truly game changing Future Transport strategy. We are also evolving, bringing together new and existing transport modes, cutting edge technologies, and getting smarter at how we do it. We are changing to deliver more connected journeys, greater satisfaction, and safer transport for our customers, both now and for the future.
The Division
The Greater Sydney Division is redefining integrated transport choices to improve the lives of customers and communities, making Greater Sydney a better place to live, work and play. We have the single biggest place making opportunity at Transport in the coming years, reshaping Greater Sydney into a metropolis of three cities – Eastern Harbour City, Central River City and Western Parklands City - whilst also overseeing the Greater Sydney region as a whole.
The Opportunity
Can you see yourself working in a role where no two days are the same? What about helping to monitor over 18,000km of the NSW State Road network and identifying ways to help to ensure our customers get to their destinations as safely and quickly as possible? One day you could be helping to manage incidents on one of our key regional roads and the next you could be helping to coordinate the public transport network. On another day you could experience the satisfaction of knowing you helped organise a ‘green light run’ to assist in urgently getting someone the medical help they need.
The Detail
Based at our Transport Management Centre in Eveleigh you will work with our surface transport team to optimise traffic flows and network efficiency to enable seamless, safe, and reliable journeys for our customers.
In this critical role you will also
• Proactively monitor, identify, and assess unusual congestion and delays on urban and regional road networks and transport corridors ensuring incidents are responded to on a priority basis
• Use computer system-based responses to minimise the effect of individual incidents on the network
• Co-ordinate the timely and safe operation of traffic control systems by monitoring traffic flow and directing field resources to where they are needed
• Help maintain effective operational integration of private motorways into the whole road network by working with private motorway operations staff to respond to incidents
• Contribute to the effective preparation for events, operations and incidents by applying your knowledge and expertise. Be involved in incident debriefs contributing to ongoing learning and improvement for planned and unplanned incidents
About you
We are looking for someone with passion, dedication, and resilience with both a desire to learn and ability to work effectively in a team environment. You should be able to demonstrate a knowledge of the NSW roads rules including clearway and ideally have a background and understanding of bus operations.
We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a fast paced, high performing environment where you will need to make well considered, coordinated and speedy decisions. You will ideally have tertiary qualifications or previous experience in a similar role and be comfortable working on a 24/7 rotational roster which will include nightshifts.
