Job Description

What you will do

You will be responsible for providing policy support, technical advice and engineering guidance on sensing and optical operational equipment.

This includes Surveillance, Target and Night Observation devices, as well as optical and electronic equipment.

You'll lend your expertise and lead others in areas such as:

  • Obsolescence management;
  • Engineering changes;
  • Publication management;
  • Exercising the Logistic Support Agreement; and
  • The repair, overhaul and maintenance policy. 

You will also be asked to provide cost effective solutions that are operationally feasible and safe within the bounds of the engineering regulatory framework, legislation and policy.

What we need

An experienced leader with strong background in engineering fundamentals and the operation and repair of land sensing, electro/optical equipment. This could include fire control systems, RPAS, simulation systems and land sensing equipment.

Along with experience in equipment repair, logistics and procurement you will need:

  • Sound skills in analysing and utilising technical data and reports to develop effective solutions and improvements;
  • Experience in equipment quality management, evaluation, assurance and compliance;
  • Experience advising on best practise requirements and future recommendations;
  • A working knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems, along with competency in the MS Office Suite;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain sustainable working relationships;
  • A high degree of self- motivation and the drive to deliver quality outcomes and exceed customer expectations.

You'll be providing advice to key stakeholders and will need to be a confident, pro-active communicator with the ability to influence and effect change.

The Defence Equipment Management Organisation (DEMO) is responsible for providing proactive, responsive and effective strategic in-service equipment fleet management and full life-cycle integrated logistic support (ILS) advice to support delivery of the NZDF's outputs. Our focus is on equipment and related commodities and consumables, and ensuring they are available at the right time and standard to enable the Army, Air Force and Navy to achieve the right effect.

  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.
