About the team
The Infrastructure and Place (IP) division is in the process of delivering a once-in-a generation multi-billion dollar program of public infrastructure works which will ease congestion, improve safety, create new places and connect communities for generations to come. We are dedicated and passionate team that is proud of the work we do and the supportive and flexible team culture we have built.
The Systems Engineering and Integration unit within the Technical Services Branch provides specialised engineering support services to project delivery teams, as well as operations and maintenance functions, across multiple Transport modes. The Systems Safety team’s subject matter expertise supports IP division’s objective of designing safety into every system and asset that we deliver.
The opportunity
The role will function as a subject matter expert in Systems Safety, supporting programs and projects being developed and delivered. The successful candidate will work on a diverse project portfolio, which currently includes road tunnel control systems, tram networks, rail signalling system upgrades and rollingstock delivery.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
Advising, guiding and supporting projects applying technical systems safety engineering across multiple transport modes.
Supporting projects in understanding their safety assurance obligations under national and international standards (e.g. AS 61508) and legislation (e.g. Rail Safety National Law).
Developing the wider team's technical systems safety and assurance skills and capabilities.
Maintaining a deep technical understanding of best-practice systems safety methodologies and applying this knowledge to the analysis and review of designs and artefacts produced by project delivery groups.

About you
You will have tertiary qualifications in engineering, systems safety, systems and safety assurance or systems integration. You will have experience in the specification and/or delivery of safety-critical systems in highly regulated industries such as transport, resources or medical devices. A demonstrated understanding of safety cases, safety arguments and other systems safety artefacts would be highly regarded.
Salary and Benefits
