The opportunity

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Specialist Environment Planning and Assessment. Reporting to the Director Policy, Planning and Assessment, you will lead a team in the development and provision of technical and policy expertise in order to ensure the Transport agencies are industry leaders in environment planning, assessment and post-approval management. You will provide high level specialist advice and assistance to executive, management, project and operational staff. The role will see you work with stakeholders to deliver effective and appropriate strategic and statutory environmental planning and assessment policy and environmental management outcomes across Transport activities. The Senior Specialist will work closely with key delivery and operational staff and contractors to lead effective technical resolution of significant issues and to drive improved outcomes across multidisciplinary teams and environmental disciplines. In driving key improvements in policy and practice, the role will be required to identify training needs, contribute to the development of programs and ensure your team delivers training and education courses to assist compliance with legislative and policy requirements. This role will also identify early and ongoing planning risks, and look for opportunities to monitor trends and emerging best practice. To achieve continuous improvement, the Senior Specialist will build relationships and work with key teams across the spheres of strategic planning, environmental and social inputs into early business case formation, place-

based and precinct-based planning, land use, property and legal specialists to formulate and implement sound policy and technical advice.

About you

• Demonstrated experience, expert knowledge and understanding of the NSW and federal planning and environment system, and legislative and regulatory requirements
• Proven capability in developing and implementing operational policies, procedures and quality systems including requirements applicable to infrastructure development, delivery and operation
• Demonstrated experience in the development and application of a contemporary risk based and integrated approach to issues management gained in organisations managing competing priorities and operating in complex, high risk, time constrained environments
• Demonstrated experience in leading significant interactions with stakeholders and regulatory agencies in respect of environmental requirements and strategic direction
• Capacity to successfully juggle multiple deliverables and complex issues, in a busy and evolving policy environment
• You will understand the challenges and opportunities of working within a matrix-based organisation, and of collaborating with multiple project and operations and maintenance based teams
• Relevant tertiary qualification and proven capacity to lead the development, implementation and review of environmental policies relating to environmental planning and assessment.
