For our Microsoft Research Cambridge lab, we are seeking Senior Researcher candidates in the area of Deep Learning on Structured Data. The successful applicant is expected to develop and contribute to a program of research in deep learning approaches for the handling of highly structured data, such as molecules, computer programs or knowledge graphs. This is an exceptional opportunity to drive ambitious research on foundational deep learning models while collaborating with a diverse team of researchers and engineers that are aiming to push the state of the art in a wide array of application areas.

Responsibilities

• Develop machine learning models able to learn from vast volumes of structured data, competing with existing approaches based on Graph Neural Networks or Transformers.
• Work with domain experts to understand the shortcomings of existing techniques and requirements of their application scenarios.
• Implement and test out new approaches both on toy test tasks as well as on actual application scenarios.
• Prepare technical papers and presentations

Qualifications

• Ability to perform self-directed research in deep learning, for example demonstrated by a completed PhD.
• Experience in learning from structured data, for example demonstrated by publications in top-tier venues (e.g., conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, etc.) or by implementations in the area.
• Hands-on experience in implementing and evaluating machine learning approaches for structured data, for example demonstrated by open-source implementations of relevant models.
• Demonstrated ability to write Python code and familiarity with collaborative software engineering processes such as code reviews and software testing principles.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
• Passion to see research have real-world impact on key challenges for society and problems in the natural sciences.
