Job Description
The Department of Conservation is seeking applicants for the position of Senior Ranger, Community; Kaitiaki Matua, Ä€o HÄpori based in Auckland. The focus of the role is providing strategic advice, planning, monitoring and reporting on the District's Treaty partnership and Community work. This is a strategic role and requires a high degree of planning and strategic thinking in order to be successful.
This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a strong, hardworking team and support growing conservation in the Auckland Inner Islands District alongside our Treaty partners and communities.
This position is a fixed term for maternity cover until the 24th of February 2023.
Core components of this role include:
- Providing strategic advice to the Operations Manager on Community and Treaty work priorities
- Coordinating and planning for Rangers
- Monitoring and reporting on financial performance and resource allocation
- Supporting and advising the Operations Manager, and wider district team on national, regional and local priorities
- Supporting aspirations of iwi
- Engaging effectively and confidently in te ao maori environment
- Managing relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders; internal business groups, management, other public sector bodies, private sector organisations and local community groups.
The ideal applicant will:
- Be comfortable pulling reports and utilising the data to make informed decisions, financial and non-financial
- Have previous experience delegating and planning workloads for a wider team
- Understand and have experience in how to prioritise critical tasks and issues
- Demonstrate exceptional stakeholder engagement and have managed complex relationships externally and internally
- Be able to identify issues, opportunities and innovative solutions
- Be adept at learning and using a wide range of systems and processes
- Demonstrate ability in building positive working relationships across a broad range of public and private sector businesses and groups;
- Possess experience in working with whÄnau, hapÅ« and iwi, with an understanding of te ao MÄori – Highly advantageous
- A good understanding of te reo me onÄ tikanga – highly desirable
- Hold a current full New Zealand Driver License
