Job Description

The Department of Conservation is seeking applicants for the position of Senior Ranger, Community; Kaitiaki Matua, Āo Hāpori based in Auckland. The focus of the role is providing strategic advice, planning, monitoring and reporting on the District's Treaty partnership and Community work. This is a strategic role and requires a high degree of planning and strategic thinking in order to be successful.

  This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a strong, hardworking team and support growing conservation in the Auckland Inner Islands District alongside our Treaty partners and communities.

 This position is a fixed term for maternity cover until the 24th of February 2023.

 Core components of this role include:

  • Providing strategic advice to the Operations Manager on Community and Treaty work priorities
  • Coordinating and planning for Rangers
  • Monitoring and reporting on financial performance and resource allocation
  • Supporting and advising the Operations Manager, and wider district team on national, regional and local priorities
  • Supporting aspirations of iwi
  • Engaging effectively and confidently in te ao maori environment
  • Managing relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders; internal business groups, management, other public sector bodies, private sector organisations and local community groups.

 The ideal applicant will:

  • Be comfortable pulling reports and utilising the data to make informed decisions, financial and non-financial
  • Have previous experience delegating and planning workloads for a wider team
  • Understand and have experience in how to prioritise critical tasks and issues
  • Demonstrate exceptional stakeholder engagement and have managed complex relationships externally and internally
  • Be able to identify issues, opportunities and innovative solutions
  • Be adept at learning and using a wide range of systems and processes
  • Demonstrate ability in building positive working relationships across a broad range of public and private sector businesses and groups;
  • Possess experience in working with whānau, hapÅ« and iwi, with an understanding of te ao Māori – Highly advantageous
  • A good understanding of te reo me onā tikanga – highly desirable
  • Hold a current full New Zealand Driver License
