About the roles
Our Net Zero Industry and Innovation Program (NZIIP) and Energy Security Safeguard (Safeguard) teams are seeking experienced and agile Senior Project Officers to deliver programs within the Climate Change and Sustainability Division to help our customers and partners in industry and NSW Government agencies sustainably transition to net zero emissions.
About the Net Zero Industry and Innovation Program (NZIIP)
The program is a $1.05 billion initiative within the NSW Government’s Net Zero Plan 2020-2030, designed to help our customers and partners in existing industries future-proof their operations, create low-carbon industrial precincts and support the development of a thriving clean technology sector in New South Wales.
About the Energy Security Safeguard (Safeguard)
The Safeguard is NSW largest energy savings initiative. It is made up of three interrelated, but separate market-based certificate schemes, incentivising:
Energy efficiency through the existing Energy Savings Scheme (ESS), the largest single energy efficiency initiative in NSW
Peak demand reduction from late 2022 through the new Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS), and
Green hydrogen production from 2024 through the new Renewable Fuels Scheme (RFS).
Program focus areas for recruitment:
NZIIP
Emissions Intensity Reduction - helps hard-to-abate industries and precincts accelerate decarbonisation and harness the significant economic opportunities that new low-emissions goods and services can offer to NSW.
Clean Technology and Innovation – will create an innovation ecosystem in NSW where clean technologies are rapidly developed, repeatedly innovated and scaled-up to meet our emissions targets
Safeguard
Peak Demand Reduction Scheme – will create market-based incentives to encourage reductions in electricity demand at peak times through Demand Savings, Demand Response and Demand Shifting.
Renewable Fuels Scheme – will create market-based incentives for the production and scaling up of hydrogen production and is a key part of the NSW Hydrogen Strategy.
Roles will include:
working with some of NSW’s largest industries to deploy low emissions technologies and infrastructure to reduce the emissions associated with the largest energy users in NSW
laying the foundation for low-carbon industrial precincts in NSW
helping to create a thriving innovation ecosystem in NSW where clean technologies are rapidly developed, repeatedly innovated and scaled up to meet our emissions targets
responsible for researching and evaluating technologies and service delivery models for introduction into the Safeguard and for reviewing and improving existing systems and rules
involved in streamlining and modernising the Safeguard schemes by working with the energy services market to understand their needs and remove barriers to participation
undertaking deep-dive modelling and opportunity analysis on emerging technologies to catalyse new sources of energy and emissions reductions at scale
building strategic relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including large industrial organisations, other government agencies, consultants and clean-technology sector and research institutions.
