The Digital Security Unit (DSU) is looking for a Senior Program Manager with excellent writing and storytelling skills and a passion for cybersecurity. The Digital Security Unit is a division of Customer Security & Trust and is focused on understanding nation states and advanced actors and sharing out information about why and how their attacks impact the world.  CST is a part of Microsoft’s Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs (CELA) and leads much of Microsoft’s work to ensure that our customers are protected from advanced and persistent adversaries, including nation states. 

Communicating clearly about the threats and risks of nation states and advanced actors is an essential part of our approach to protecting our customers, the computing ecosystem, and Microsoft itself.  Developing DSU’s narratives in this space will require a strong senior program manager to manage the process of collecting data and analysis on threats and trends from all relevant company organizations, assemble the information, and create ‘single voice’ materials for use internally and externally.  Creating materials that CST, executives, and our field teams and others can also use to help advance the discussion is an important part of this role. 

Responsibilities

Collaboration within CST and cross company security teams.

Ability to learn fast and gain a deep and broad understanding of Microsoft’s cybersecurity teams and initiatives.

Create and build compelling reports, briefings, or materials to communicate to multiple audiences. Microsoft’s unique perspective on threats, including actors, techniques, motivations and corrective actions. 

Identify new storytelling opportunities to help meet our stakeholders’ needs and provide new insights to customers and the broader ecosystem.

Ability to write reports, briefings, and materials that can be used directly with customers, with executives, and with our field teams.

Leverage data to provide support for analysis and materials created by the DSU.

Stay educated on emerging trends and technologies in this space relevant to CST and Microsoft.

Manage vendors supporting the content creation process.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

Excellent writing skills with an ability to work with technical or complex topics and present them in clear and relatable terms.  Comfort in building narratives, using numbers to help tell stories, and having confidence to ask questions, to help technical thought leaders unlock new ideas and uncover new narratives, will also be essential.  Critical to the role is the ability to synthesize data into a single voice that communicates a compelling, data-driven story. Strong collaboration and organizational skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines required. Empathy and understanding of the customer’s view, while balancing the operational realities of many groups is required.

The successful candidate will have very strong prioritization and diplomacy skills.  They must have a willingness to experiment and try new things, fail fast and learn from those mistakes all while effectively supporting a cross company initiative.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in cybersecurity preferred.

5+ years program management experience, with strong track record in project management, excellent time management and organization skills, and the ability to think creatively.

Ability to deal with high levels of ambiguity.

Deep experience collaborating across a wide variety of backgrounds (engineers, analysts, policy makers, and/or investigators).

Excellent oral and written communication skills with the experience translating technical material into a consumable narrative for multi-media channels (print and visual).

Experience using data to create relevant materials including reports, presentations, briefing documents, and field-ready materials.

The ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across teams, disciplines, and levels, including senior and executive management, often within the context of competing priorities.

Attention to detail with self-discipline and a drive for results.

Creative and innovative thinker. 

Desired Skills:

Track record of successful delivery from initial strategy to assembly and publishing.

Ability and willingness to adapt quickly as the legal, policy, and factual landscapes evolve.

Ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
