On the Microsoft Advertiser Platform, we build high scale services for our customers, as well as our Field teams across Sales, Support and Marketing that service these customers. Businesses depend on us to onboard to the Microsoft Ad eco-system, manage their ad creatives and budgets, and set up and optimize their marketing campaigns to get the highest return on investment in meeting their marketing goals. We have the triple challenge of accelerating growth of ad creatives from these advertisers, increasing our fair share of wallet of their marketing budgets, and winning fans and advocates among them, by creating love for our product. We also empower our own sellers, as well as our agencies and channel partners, to acquire and nurture their portfolio of clients, proactively offering value that grows this portfolio in ways that meets the clients’ goals and grows our business.
You will shape these products every day, as the CEO for your product portfolio. You will walk in our customers’ shoes – building on engagements with them, you will understand how they are using our product today and what they need from our product tomorrow. You will deeply understand the industry we’re serving, the business we’re in and our competition. You will identify new growth initiatives, craft product vision and the strategy to realize it. You will lead innovation, using data to experiment, learn, and iterate, without fear of failure. You will work across the company with other product groups, as well as across the aisle with other disciplines. We need leaders who can keep the big picture in focus, while being able to dive into the unique engineering challenges we face daily. You will partner with, and inspire, our development team to deliver significant value to our customers and business. Besides working with these technical peers, you will also work well with non-engineering disciplines such as our UX Research/Design/Content, Sales, Support, Marketing, Business Development, Operations, Compliance, Legal and Finance partners – you will leverage and collaborate with them to keep a close pulse on our customers, define best-in-class experiences, evangelize our vision and roadmap externally, take changes to market, and then measure their impact against customer and business goals.
Responsibilities
PMs in our team are the caretakers of the product and its outcomes for our customers. In short, the PM role in this team is focused on answering two key questions: what and why. What customer needs are we solving? Why are we solving them? What product improvements are we building? Why are we building these? What are we doing to better deliver business success for our customers? Answering these questions requires deep customer obsession and strong product sense. For us in the PM team, customer obsession means that we are always evaluating solutions from the customer’s perspective. This is especially valuable, because oftentimes, the PM is the primary advocate for the customer in every stage of the product development lifecycle. Product sense means proposing, building, and evaluating product changes as solutions to customer problems.
Product development is much more than answering what and why. PMs can only succeed with close partnerships with all other professions that interact the customer’s experience. Not only do PMs partner with Software Engineers, they also partner with UX designers, UX researchers, sales account managers, product marketing managers, customer support engineers, customer support advocates, privacy teams, compliance teams, engineering business leadership, etc. Success in this role requires a scaled approach to human partnership and teamwork.
