Working in partnership with BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds Product Managers, Engineers and a range of internal stakeholders including legal and business development teams, The Senior Product Manager, iPlayer TV Certification is responsible for ensuring that BBC TV apps are available on all UK TV devices to a standard that ensures users get an excellent experience both at launch and in the future.
The successful commercial savvy Product Leader will be responsible for making sure that BBC TV applications are accessible, performant and future proof on the wide range of TV devices available to licence fee payers in the UK. You will use your fantastic stakeholder management skills to build long lasting relationships with TV partners and big tech including LG, Samsung, Digital UK, YouView, Sony, Sky, Google, and Amazon. Your overarching goal is to maintain BBC iPlayer’s high-quality standard and ensure all parties are on a journey to take BBC iPlayer connected TV apps to the next level.
Role Responsibility
Working directly with TV partners to communicate, coordinate and manage the process of device certification. You’ll build trusting relationships with teams locally and overseas.
Work with BBC Business Development and Legal teams to ensure agreements and relationships with third parties support product requirements and align with product strategy and delivery.
Representing TV partners throughout the certification process, based upon partner needs, probability of successful pass balanced with the volume of devices. Leading meetings with external partners and acting as a touch point between commercial and our product teams.
Regular engagement with BBC Joint Venture partnerships to ensure high levels of engagement and coordination.
Ensuring certification results are accurately and consistently communicated to partner, considering all relevant context and circumstances.
Jointly responsible for continuous improvement of the TV Certification process, identifying and prioritising enhancements, communicating them to both partners and business as required.
Listening to, understanding, and representing our TV partners biggest challenges with TV certification such that we can reduce the friction involved in getting BBC TV services.
Develop and foster relationships with multiple platform/device partners and industry bodies to understand and challenge direction and trends for syndication and content discovery.
Use of metrics and ongoing deep-dive analysis to establish improvements and trends in certification and in market around different device types.
Enthusiasm, curiosity, and a passion for product.
The Ideal Candidate
Essential:
Experience working with 3rd party organisations with overlapping but differing goals.
Ability to apply industry knowledge, market awareness, audience research and analytics insights to product strategy and planning.
Strong technical understanding of digital/web technologies to both understand and represent challenges and opportunities with partners.
Demonstrable experience of working within multidisciplinary agile delivery teams to deliver successful and impactful product development.
Clear communication skills, appropriate to the wide range of stakeholders that you’ll be engaging with daily. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
Experience with product cycles of 12+ months.
Desirable:
A good understanding of TV platforms, applications, and emerging web technologies.
Demonstrable experience of using analytics and audience research to uncover and investigate user behaviour; to establish insight into product performance and to use this data to drive ideas, features and product improvements.
Experience working to develop and deliver a digital service that can supports the BBC’s TV device application needs, now and in future.
Ability to context switch, to adapt quickly to different challenges and priorities.
