About the Team
The Safety, Environment and Regulation (SER) division upholds safety and sustainability in our transport system. We’re working to deliver globally-recognised, safe, sustainable transport for our people, customers and the community.
Within SER we have the Safety branch including the Road Safety Strategy and Policy Team. This team is responsible for the leadership of road safety policy and program reforms based on robust evidence, best practice Safe System expertise and supported by up to date road safety laws and regulations that help to deliver NSW Government road safety targets.
We have implemented key actions and transformative road safety policy reforms as part of delivering the current Road Safety Plan 2021 to contribute to the Government’s road safety target of reducing road trauma on the NSW road network to zero by 2050. We are currently finalising the next road safety action plan which will establish road safety priorities to be delivered over the 5 years to 2026.
The opportunity
Right now, we have opportunities for two Senior Policy Officers who are responsible for supporting the Senior Managers and Director Road Safety Policy by managing their own policy portfolios and projects.
The role involves leading multi-stakeholder project teams and streams of work to review, analyse and develop key road safety policy and programs based on evidence, research and stakeholder and community input.

About you
We are looking for experienced Senior Policy professionals who are used to leading multidisciplinary teams and have strong project management skills.
You will possess superior communication skills, both verbal and written and excellent stakeholder management capability as you will be working with a variety of stakeholders both internal and external to Transport for NSW who are involved on a variety of levels in the policy development and delivery.
The ability to self-manage is key, as is your agility to be responsive and supportive ensuring that you adapt to the diverse requirements of your portfolio.
Your demonstrated experience in policy development and sound knowledge of the machinery of government, regulatory and legislative frameworks will ensure that you will use high level analytical and communication skills to provide sound advice, prepare high level well positioned and formulated documentation across a range of instruments including briefings, policy papers, cabinet submissions, bill folders, inquiry submissions and presentations.
Your demonstrated project management skills will ensure that you are able to lead and collaborate across multiple stakeholder project teams including policy and data analysts, subject matter experts and community engagement professionals to assist you in delivering your projects within the required timeframes.
This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in shaping future policies and plans which will contribute to reducing fatalities and serious injuries on the NSW road network Towards Zero.
Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position is USS Grade 9 ($138,670 - $155,309) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
