Job Description

About us

Transport for NSW keeps our State moving by providing safe, integrated and efficient transport systems. We put our customers at the centre of everything we do – and we do a lot. We connect people, communities and industry and manage how they use our road, rail and maritime networks and services, and even active modes like walking and cycling. The work we do connects the journeys you take every day.

We are a state government organisation made up of more than 28,000 people and we're in the middle of delivering the largest transport infrastructure program in Australia's history. We work across planning, policy and procurement, harnessing data and technology to develop smarter and more adaptive transport solutions.

That means job opportunities in metropolitan and regional areas right across NSW – you have the chance to be part of creating a lasting legacy that will benefit generations to come.

About the Team

The Safety, Environment and Regulation (SER) division upholds safety and sustainability in our transport system. We’re working to deliver globally-recognised, safe, sustainable transport for our people, customers and the community.

Within SER we have the Safety branch including the  Road Safety Strategy and Policy Team. This team is responsible for the leadership of road safety policy and program reforms based on robust evidence, best practice Safe System expertise and supported by up to date road safety laws and regulations that help to deliver NSW Government road safety targets.

We have implemented key actions and  transformative road safety policy reforms  as part of  delivering the current Road Safety Plan 2021 to contribute to the Government’s road safety target of reducing road trauma on the NSW road network to zero by 2050. We are currently finalising the next road safety action plan which will establish road safety priorities to be delivered over the 5 years to 2026.

The opportunity

Right now, we have opportunities for two Senior Policy Officers who are responsible for supporting the Senior Managers and Director Road Safety Policy by managing their own policy portfolios and projects.

The role involves leading multi-stakeholder project teams and streams of work to review, analyse and develop key road safety policy and programs based on evidence, research and stakeholder and community input.

The ability to self-manage is key, as is your agility to be responsive and supportive ensuring that you adapt to the diverse requirements of your portfolio.

Your demonstrated  experience in policy development and sound knowledge of the machinery of government, regulatory and legislative frameworks will ensure that you will use high level analytical and communication skills to provide sound advice, prepare high level well positioned and formulated documentation across a range of instruments including briefings, policy papers, cabinet submissions, bill folders, inquiry submissions and presentations.

Your demonstrated project management skills will ensure that you are able to lead and collaborate across multiple stakeholder project teams including policy and data analysts, subject matter experts and community engagement professionals to assist you in delivering your projects within the required timeframes.
